I've been craving meat lately, so I went out for lunch to Ilpum Chamsut Galbi in Dunpo, Asan! From charcoal-grilled meat to filling meal options, it had everything for a proper feast on a hungry day >_<

Where is Ilpum Chamsut Galbi in Dunpo, and where do you park?
Ilpum Chamsut Galbi is located in Dunpo, Asan! The huge sign makes it super easy to spot from far away~! There were also chairs set up in front for waiting if there's a line @_@! Since it's a restaurant serving everything from pork galbi to fresh pork neck to pork belly, I walked in wondering which cut to go with that day >_<

There was space to park right along the road in front of the restaurant and around it~ When I visited there were quite a few cars parked nearby, but there was enough room and I parked without any trouble~ If you're driving, just check the parking spaces around the restaurant when you get there :)

Inside the restaurant: is it good for groups?
Walking inside, the interior was bigger than expected with quite a lot of tables. The spacing between tables wasn't cramped either, so it seemed fine for group visits too~ True to a proper barbecue restaurant, there were ventilation units at every table, and floor-to-ceiling windows made the place feel bright and open during the day~!

Menu, the 9,000 won lunch set and free rice refills
The menu has a wide range of meat, from pork galbi to Jeju pork belly, fresh pork neck, and premium galbi cuts~ There are also meal options like naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), hot stone pot rice, and plain rice, and on weekdays they sell a jeyuk jeongsik (spicy stir-fried pork set) as a lunch special! It's available for 2 or more people at ₩9,000, which seemed like a pretty good deal for a lunch outing haha.
And what caught my eye was the free rice refills @_@!!! The menu said switching to hot stone pot rice costs an extra ₩1,000~ *Per the menu, the lunch special isn't offered on weekends or public holidays, so keep that in mind :)

There was also a customer appreciation review event posted at the table~ Apparently if you write a receipt review, you get either a bottle of alcohol or a canned drink as a freebie! You can join once per table, and just need to include a photo or video with your review — if you visit, don't miss it :) I never pass up these little events.
The free side dish spread, from steamed egg to corn cheese
Once we ordered the meat, a full table of side dishes arrived~ Salad, geotjeori (fresh cabbage kimchi), cool muksabal (acorn jelly in cold broth), seasoned crab, and even braised fish — there were more varieties than I expected. The braised fish especially had good thick flesh and the sauce made me want rice right away!! With seasoned crab on the table too, I was already picking at side dishes before the meat even arrived, hehe. There was such a variety of banchan to pair with the meat that the spread felt pretty generous!!!!!

I thought the basic spread was done, but nope~ Bubbling egg custard and corn cheese are also part of the standard side dishes! The egg custard came out piping hot in a stone bowl, and the corn cheese was still sizzling, so my hands kept reaching over before the meat was even on the grill -_ㅠ I needed to save room for meat but there was already so much to eat -_ㅠ;;;;;;;;
Charcoal-grilled pork galbi, and why we ordered a second round
Finally, the star — pork galbi! The evenly marinated pork galbi went straight onto the charcoal. Once it started sizzling on the charcoal, my stomach genuinely lost it!!!!!! Marinated meat burns fast if you're not careful, so you have to keep flipping it, cutting it into bite-size pieces as you go until it's nicely browned — that's it! The subtle smoky aroma from the charcoal in particular was really great 👍 I usually never order extra pork galbi, but the sauce wasn't overly sweet or heavy, and it was so good I ended up ordering more..^_^..

I tried a piece of the nicely browned pork galbi right away. The sauce wasn't just sitting on the surface — it was well soaked into the meat, and thanks to the charcoal grilling, the outside had a light char while the inside stayed soft and juicy! It was seasoned enough to eat as is, but dipping it lightly in the ssamjang (dipping sauce) that came with it gave it a whole different flavor ㅎ_ㅎ!

Wrapping the pork in lettuce with fresh geotjeori kimchi
After eating the meat plain for a while, I finally made a proper ssam (lettuce wrap) >_< I put ssammu (pickled radish) on lettuce, added the pork galbi with ssamjang and garlic, and took a bite! For the second one I piled on plenty of onion too — honestly, it's hard to find a combo that doesn't work.

After thoroughly enjoying the ssam, I tried a piece of pork galbi with geotjeori this time! I picked up just the seasoned geotjeori and ate it with the meat, and it went surprisingly well with the galbi!

Finishing with nurungji and cold buckwheat noodles
And it would be a shame to eat pork galbi without rice. I put a piece of well-grilled galbi on top of plain white rice and took a bite! The sweet, salty galbi sauce meeting rice is a combo that never fails 😎 After the rice, I also tried nurungji (scorched rice) topped with a piece of galbi!! Eating pork galbi with the savory nurungji made for a clean, satisfying finish >_< You really have to finish off meat with nurungji — that's non-negotiable.
My boyfriend said galbi calls for naengmyeon no matter what, so he ordered the cold buckwheat noodles with floating ice bits! (Shocked it wasn't the spicy bibim version.) He said after eating meat, one sip of the cold broth cleared his palate completely~ We finished off the leftover pork galbi together with the noodles — me with nurungji, him with naengmyeon! Each of us wrapped up the meal our own way >_<

A place where I properly enjoyed pork galbi after a while and left completely full!! Overall I had a very satisfying meal! The staff were kind too, which made it even better! If you're in Dunpo looking for a family dinner spot or somewhere for galbi, give Ilpum Chamsut Galbi a try :) The pork galbi tasted even better grilled over charcoal 🐷🐷💙
