Honestly, I'd walked past this place several times without stopping. Then I happened to search for Asan Eumbong restaurants and saw that they hand-clean neungi mushrooms and make fresh broth every day — I got curious about the taste.

So here it is, the real deal known as the Asan baeksuk (whole chicken/duck soup) restaurant — Oneungi Shabu Baeksuk in Eumbong. Let me share my honest experience from today! It was so good, you really should try it ^^

I found it interesting that they cut and dry cudrania and ohgaphi (elm/thorn tree) branches in winter ahead of time to brew later, and above all, I could feel their intention to serve elders with real care — that's what made me decide I had to visit this time.

Sign introducing neungi nurungji duck baeksuk as a popular menu item

I heard they recently added a shabu-style menu made with a broth of neungi mushroom, ohgaphi, and cudrania simmered for a whopping six hours. Dishes with added nurungji (scorched rice), like the neungi nurungji duck baeksuk (₩75,000) and neungi nurungji chicken baeksuk (₩65,000), were introduced separately as the popular menu.

Today's table — Neungi Nurungji Duck Baeksuk

Without hesitation, I ordered the popular menu item — the neungi nurungji duck baeksuk!

Side dishes that even include young wild ginseng

The basic side dishes were beautifully arranged from the start. Especially with the young wild ginseng, I felt like I'd really come for proper nourishment. The subtle, slightly bitter flavor went perfectly with the duck baeksuk! Even the pancake had a satisfying chew, and every single side dish was mildly seasoned, not overpowering — which I personally loved, since I've been trying to cut back on sodium lately.

Rich broth with nurungji duck baeksuk

The bubbling nurungji duck baeksuk arrived — can you see the neungi mushroom? It was loaded with the pricey neungi mushroom!! The broth is genuinely~~~~~~~ rich!! The nurungji thickened the broth so well that I kept dipping my spoon back in.

A stalk of neungi mushroom hand-cleaned by the owner

Before brewing the broth, the owner personally showed me a stalk of neungi mushroom he'd hand-cleaned, and its subtle aroma spread through the air. Seeing a real neungi mushroom that I'd only heard about, right in front of me, made me understand why the broth tasted so deep!!

Tender duck meat that easily falls off the bone

The duck meat was so tender it slid right off the bone with just a light touch of the chopsticks. And best of all, there was zero gamey smell. A certified real deal!! Scooped up together with the nurungji, the savory flavor deepened even more, and I kept emptying the bowl.

Bowl with deboned duck meat

Having the meat deboned and served separately in a bowl was so convenient. My parents were happy too, since they didn't have to worry about picking bones.

And then, the nurungji — my family's favorite part! Everyone was fighting over it that day haha. Honestly one of the best I've had^^

After the meal: golden mushroom tea and sikhye

After finishing the meal, we had golden mushroom tea brewed with neungi and sanghwang mushroom, along with homemade sikhye (sweet rice punch).

Not too sweet, with a subtle flavor — perfect for settling the stomach after such a filling meal!

Baeksuk pot emptied down to the last drop of broth

In the end, we cleaned the broth down to the very last drop. It had been a while since I'd emptied a pot this completely!

Receipt review event and final thoughts

At the entrance, there was also an event running where you get a free neungi chapssal (sweet rice) if you leave a Naver receipt review. Keep that in mind if you're planning a visit ^^ After this trip, I understood why this place keeps getting talked about as an Asan favorite.

Meal shared together with parents at the baeksuk table

My parents ate a hearty meal for the first time in a while, and their faces looked so much more at ease afterward — this is exactly what real nourishment looks like. If you're looking for a restaurant in Eumbong, or craving Asan baeksuk, I highly recommend Oneungi Shabu Baeksuk!
