I was trying to decide where to have lunch today and ended up somewhere I could enjoy a hearty meal in a clean, polished setting. That place: the Korean set-meal restaurant in Gojan-dong, Ansan — Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch!

From the moment you step in, the interior gives off a tidy, well-kept feel — good enough to bring clients or friends here without a second thought!
Where is Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch, and is there parking?
Tidiness oozes from every corner of this place
Yeongwolae Gondre Ansan Branch sits right in the heart of Gojan-dong, and still offers 2 hours of free parking for drivers, so you can eat without any parking stress. The spacious, comfortable dining room also makes it a solid pick for gatherings or work dinners! And even the wait feels classy here!

The lunch order: Yeongwol Mureungdowon Set at 20,000 won per person
What we picked was the Yeongwol Mureungdowon Set ₩20,000 per person
For this visit, we went with the restaurant's signature set, the Yeongwol Mureungdowon Set, said to be inspired by the scenery of Mureungdowon in Yeongwol, Gangwon-do. It comes generously composed for two people sharing!

Everything arrives laid out at once!

Seasoned herb salads, grilled mackerel and thick doenjang sauce
The vivid green seasoned herbs come with the nuttiness of sesame oil and the pop of sesame seeds, delivering a healthy flavor with every bite. Mixed into the gondre rice, it's downright addictive!

The mackerel comes out crispy on the outside and moist inside, with zero fishy taste and a rich, nutty flavor that pairs perfectly with the gondre rice. I even wrapped some in lettuce with the mackerel for a proper ssam (wrap).
Then there's the deep, savory doenjang (soybean paste) sauce that tastes like it came from a countryside kitchen. Mixed into rice, it's a total mood-lifter — a supporting player that might actually be the main star... there's even a hint of jjajang-like flavor in it, which is its own charm!

Yeongwol-style stir-fried pork and the side dishes
The Yeongwol-style stir-fried pork has no gamey aftertaste and is coated in a sweet-and-spicy sauce that soaks all the way through the meat — a total rice thief that everyone from kids to grandparents would love.
Before diving into the main dishes, let's admire the basic side dishes and the finished gondre rice in photos first!
Fresh seasoned herbs, crunchy kimchi, and lotus root braised to a lovely texture — all the banchan (side dishes) here feel homemade and neatly arranged! This is exactly the kind of spread that just works!
Plump, chubby deodeok (mountain herb root) coated in a sweet-and-spicy sauce. That distinctive deodeok aroma and slight bitterness — it was so good I ate every piece!
The jellyfish salad is a standout with its tangy-sweet sauce and satisfying crunch. You don't see it much these days... the nose-tingling mustard mixed with vinegar, sugar and minced garlic in just the right ratio nails that sweet-and-sour craving.

How does the gondre rice taste, and how do refills work?
Take a spoonful of health here. There's real umami along with that distinctive gondre flavor!
Glossy, glistening rice with green gondre herbs mixed throughout — just looking at it made my mouth water... maybe I'm getting older, haha. Scoop up a heaping spoonful and you get a fresh, pine-needle-like herb aroma! This is the one. Bring your parents here and you'll pass with flying colors! And the crunchy, nutty sesame seeds mean even gondre newbies can dive right in!

The gondre herb releases a subtle sweetness the more you chew, and it's soft rather than tough — very satisfying. Great wrapped with the pork, and great wrapped with the mackerel too!

Buying side dishes and ordering lunchboxes to go
A corner of the restaurant has a sign that reads "Half of a memory is the taste," and I couldn't agree more. After your meal, you can also buy your favorite side dishes separately or have them packed into a neat lunchbox to go — worth keeping in mind.
