Bapkkot Hana Pieotne, a Korean set-meal restaurant on the slopes of Gyeryongsan

A healthy Korean set-meal spot I found while traveling in Gongju. Bapkkot Hana Pieotne (밥꽃하나피었네) sits right near Gyeryongsan mountain, so it's perfect to slot into a trip itinerary. Even the name feels warm and nostalgic ✨ It's tucked into the mountainside, so the walk in already had good vibes. Starting the review of Bapkkot Hana Pieotne, with its generous side dishes and a healthy meal — let's go!

From Gongju Station it's about 15 minutes by public transit. It's close to the Sinwonsa Temple parking lot near Gyeryongsan, so it seems like a great stop before or after a hike.

There are two parking lots, so parking is generous and there's plenty of room.

Worth keeping the hours in mind. You keep your shoes on inside.

Home-grown greens and wraps, cooked without MSG

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne says its ingredients — seasonal medicinal herbs, wild greens, and lettuce for wraps — are grown directly on their own farm. No MSG at all, just honest Korean food that lets the natural ingredients shine. Maybe that's why every single banchan (side dish) and herb dish tasted so good 💗🥹

There are also cute puppies here. So cuuute.

Sign noting Bapkkot Hana Pieotne's Blue Ribbon recognition

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne has been on TV many times and has earned two Blue Ribbon awards as a Gyeryongsan food spot. They say they grow their own cheonnyeoncho (Korean prickly pear cactus), potatoes, sweet potatoes, chili peppers, garlic, and more — which made every bite feel trustworthy and healthy 💪🏻

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne menu and what three of us ordered

Bapkkot Hana Pieotne's menu has four set meals: cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi set, minari tteokgalbi set (soy sauce or gochujang), and grilled spicy pork set. Mains can be added extra.

Ordering kiosk placed on the table

You order through the kiosk placed at each table.

With three of us, we ordered: 🤎 Minari Tteokgalbi (soy sauce) Set — ₩30,000, ❤️ Minari Tteokgalbi (gochujang) Set — ₩30,000, 🩷 Cheonnyeoncho Tteokgalbi Set — ₩35,000.

I liked the neat table setting. Even the water tasted good, which made a great first impression.

What side dishes come with the set meal?

Before the main dishes arrived, the table filled up with appetizing banchan... enough to cover the whole table ✨ This is exactly the fun of a hanjeongsik (Korean set-meal course) restaurant — eating a little of many side dishes with rice. There's also fun in just looking at each one 👀

First, a palate-cleansing salad. So this is what truly fresh vegetables taste like...! The salad dressing was sweet and nutty, great for whetting the appetite.

Buckwheat noodle salad with perilla-seed sauce

The buckwheat noodle salad comes out per person ordering a set meal — chewy, springy buckwheat noodles with a nutty perilla-seed sauce. This one's a real delicacy 💗

Warm chive pancake served fresh
Tofu kimchi with basic side dishes
Table filled with hanjeongsik side dishes

The chive pancake also comes out warm — crispy yet soft, and delicious. Dip it in the accompanying sauce and it's twice as good.

Tofu kimchi arrived too — warm, crumbly tofu topped with deeply flavorful kimchi. Really tasty; the kimchi itself was so good my chopsticks kept going back.

Vegetable fritters fried in a thin batter

The vegetable fritters — how is the batter this thin?! This is what crispy-outside, tender-inside really means. An ultra-thin, crackly batter packed full of vegetables. I want more...🥹

The seaweed noodle salad had a springy texture and nutty aroma, light enough that I kept reaching for it.

One dish reminded me of gungjung tteokbokki (royal court rice cake stir-fry) — dried eggplant and zucchini seasoned with soy sauce and perilla seeds. This was a huge hit with my friends 🩷

The fragrant seasoned wild greens were crisp and clean, great alongside rice, and the cheonggukjang (fermented soybean paste) was delicious wrapped in seaweed with rice — a perfect match.

The lettuce wraps are home-grown, apparently. The leaves themselves were tender and tasty.

Then came the main tteokgalbi, along with stir-fried eggplant, stir-fried nuts, chwinamul (aster greens), and a pile of other herb side dishes. A truly healthy spread — so filling 💪🏻💗

The rice came in a big bowl too, perfect for mixing in the various herbs or for mixing with gangdoenjang.

The hot naengi doenjang soup (shepherd's purse and soybean paste soup) was packed with naengi (shepherd's purse), and its aroma was wonderful — plus the bonus of rich doenjang fragrance ❤️

The one to order: gangdoenjang soybean paste stew

The must-try dish at Bapkkot Hana Pieotne!!! Gangdoenjang. This soft, rich fermented soybean paste dip that comes alongside was also a real delicacy...✨ A spoonful mixed into rice, or wrapped in lettuce, was incredibly good either way.

Table set with three types of tteokgalbi for three diners

How do the three tteokgalbi flavors differ?

We ordered three types of tteokgalbi: minari tteokgalbi in soy sauce, minari tteokgalbi in gochujang, and cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi. The sizzling sound was great, and seeing all three laid out on the table together looked gorgeous.

They cut the tteokgalbi into bite-sized pieces for us.

A piece of soy-sauce tteokgalbi with a charred aroma

A subtle char flavor. The soy-sauce version's distinctively sweet, moist tteokgalbi was the easiest to eat with rice. It went great placed on top of warm rice.

The minari tteokgalbi was loaded with minari (water dropwort). The patty itself was super moist, with juiciness you could really feel. Not too salty, so it was easy to enjoy.

The gochujang minari tteokgalbi had a gochujang seasoning that made for a different, more distinctive flavor. The spiciness wasn't overwhelming, and personally I enjoyed this one too.

The cheonnyeoncho tteokgalbi had a satisfying, dense texture unlike store-bought tteokgalbi. Not too sweet, not too salty — a flavor kids and adults alike would love. If you're visiting with a group, ordering different flavors and sharing, like we did, seems like a good idea.

The best bite: my favorite combination

Personally, my favorite way to eat it was wrapping a piece of tteokgalbi with rice and cheonggukjang in a lettuce leaf. The salty cheonggukjang, sweet tteokgalbi, and fresh vegetables all hit at once — incredibly good. A Gyeryongsan food spot, Bapkkot Hana Pieotne, that let me enjoy the meal in so many different ways.

Coffee served for dessert after the meal

Coffee and the garden walking path after the meal

Coffee and candy are also available for dessert. A perfect combo for a coffee-and-stroll finish 🩷

There's also a separate walking trail, great for helping digest the meal.

A great place to look around after eating too. Seeing all the greenery is pure healing 🍀

I visited Bapkkot Hana Pieotne while looking for a place to eat near Gyeryongsan in Gongju. The table came out generously full, and I left feeling satisfied and full. If you want a leisurely, hearty meal near Gyeryongsan, this is a place worth stopping by at least once. This time I tried the tteokgalbi set, so next time I visit Gongju again, I'd like to come back and try a different menu. If you're looking for a good Gyeryongsan restaurant, Bapkkot Hana Pieotne — with its generous spread and tteokgalbi — is a solid choice for a filling meal.
