Inside the restaurant

Taegyeongok, a great naengmyeon spot near Dongseongno, sits across from the Jung-gu Office, next to the Sincheon Hwangje Tteokbokki main branch. It's not far from Gyeongdaebyeongwon Station on Line 2 and there are lots of buses, so getting there by public transport was easy. The nearby Dongin private lot costs ₩2,000 an hour (free after 7pm on weekdays and all day Sunday), and the Jung-gu Office lot is free on weekends, so driving is convenient too.

As a newly opened place, it has clean interiors and a pleasant atmosphere, with classy props dotted around a space serving neat Korean dishes. It's perfect for a date or a get-together with friends, and especially well suited to taking your parents.

The open kitchen feels hygienic and clean, and besides table seating there are bar seats too. It seems cozy but the space is used well, so we could eat comfortably.
Taegyeongok menu and visit perks

Besides naengmyeon, Taegyeongok serves a range of Korean dishes: yukhoe bibimbap (raw beef bibimbap), yukhoe mul-hoe (raw beef in chilled broth), beef gukbap (rice soup), suyuk (boiled pork or beef slices) and Seoul-style bulgogi. Prices are reasonable even though it's right near downtown. On top of that, they were running a naengmyeon discount for Daegu's brutal summer heat (the city's nicknamed "Daeprica").

If you write a Naver receipt review, they give you 3 mini kimchi mandu (dumplings). If you book through Naver and visit, you also get a seasonal fruit sorbet worth ₩8,000.

They also seem to sell traditional liquors that pair nicely with Korean food.

I liked the side dishes too, which go well with the main meal. The staff were kind and refilled any side dishes we ran short of quickly.
The sanitized spoons and chopsticks come in a cutlery holder, and when you visit with a toddler they prepare special spoons for them. You can feel the thoughtfulness in many ways.
What we ordered: yukhoe bibimbap (special), yukhoe mul-hoe (special), Seoul-style bulgogi (small)

Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (special) ₩15,000
✔️ Hanwoo yukhoe bibimbap (special), ₩15,000. Top-grade 1++ fresh hanwoo plus seasonal ingredients made it clean-tasting, while you could still feel the deep flavor of the beef.

It came with a beef radish soup (muguk) with a wonderfully rich broth, and its natural savoriness made a fantastic pairing with the bibimbap.

Hanwoo yukhoe mul-hoe (special) ₩17,000
✔️ Hanwoo yukhoe mul-hoe (special), ₩17,000. Because it's top-grade 1++ fresh hanwoo, the yukhoe had no gamey smell, and the sweet-and-sour icy broth is just what you need to beat midsummer heat.

Thin somyeon noodles are included as standard, and they bring a bowl of rice too, so it was a cool yet filling meal.

Seoul-style bulgogi (small) ₩28,000
✔️ Seoul-style bulgogi (small), ₩28,000. Chewy, tender hanwoo bulgogi with a sweet broth and crunchy vegetables. Simmered down until just a little liquid is left, it tasted like honey.

Fluffy, glossy white rice with beef bulgogi: what is there even to say? It sticks to the basics and is nutty without being harsh, and it brought back my appetite that had run away from the heat.

Is it good for a date?
As we left after the meal, I noticed they also prepare hair ties, mouthwash, toothpicks and more. This naengmyeon spot near Dongseongno works perfectly well as a date course.
Taegyeongok, the naengmyeon spot near Dongseongno: both the food and the atmosphere suited my taste, and I recommend it.
