Dongin-dong Daegu Italian restaurant, weeknight dinner: Burnish Resto

In short

Burnish Resto is a fresh-pasta Italian restaurant in Dongin-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu. Years after a first visit for a friend's wedding-invitation gathering, the writer returned with that friend on a weeknight evening and ordered the napa cabbage salad, handmade gnocchi bites and bisque pasta. The signature napa cabbage salad was as good as ever, and the cozy lighting and mix of seating make Burnish Resto an easy pick for dates, first meetings or small group dinners.

Back at Burnish Resto years after a wedding-invitation dinner

Today's spot, Burnish Resto, is somewhere both my friend and I had visited once before. This time, while chatting with her, we both remembered we'd come here years ago for a gathering to hand out wedding invitations.

We decided to go back after all this time, and this visit happened together. I had good memories of eating well here before, so I was curious what we'd order this time. Here's my review of revisiting Burnish Resto after so long.

Burnish Resto parking: how many cars fit on a weeknight?

I visited on a weeknight evening after work, and luckily there was a parking spot, so I could park without any trouble.

Parking is available in front of and beside the store, so if you're driving, that's worth knowing.

I'd made a reservation by phone that same day, and I was impressed that they'd thoughtfully written our names on the table. Even after so long, the atmosphere was still just as good.

The lighting throughout is soft and cozy, so I thought it would be a great pick not just for dates but for blind dates or special occasions.

On the day I visited, a group of college students was having a birthday party, which confirmed it's a popular spot for group gatherings too.

There's also a coat rack area in the middle of the space, which would be handy for hanging coats once the weather turns colder.

Seating ranges from tables for two to larger group tables, so it seemed like a good fit for small gatherings too.

Burnish Resto menu and QR code ordering

Burnish Resto makes all its sauces, pickles, and fresh pasta noodles in-house. They also happened to have a new summer-only menu item, cold sweet shrimp pasta.

If you like cold pasta, it might be worth trying if you visit in summer.

Ordering was simple via the QR code on the table. After some deliberation, we ordered the napa cabbage salad, handmade gnocchi bites, and bisque pasta.

Focaccia served as pre-meal bread

Focaccia served before the meal

After ordering, the first thing they brought out was the pre-meal bread. It was focaccia, and it was so much fluffier and softer than I expected — I was genuinely surprised.

My friend who bakes for a living is quite picky about bread, but even she tried it and raved about how good it was.

And now the dish I was most looking forward to, Burnish Resto's signature napa cabbage salad. It left a strong impression the very first time I had it — I couldn't believe grilled napa cabbage could taste this good.

I remembered enjoying it so much on my visit years ago, so I ordered it again without a second thought this time.

Colorful grilled napa cabbage salad

It's colorful and photogenic too, so food photos come out looking great. Even eating it again after all this time, it exceeded expectations — truly living up to its status as Burnish Resto's signature dish!

You might wonder if it's worth ordering a salad on top of everything else, but if you visit Burnish Resto, this is one dish you should definitely try.

Handmade gnocchi bites

Next up, the handmade gnocchi bites. These are handmade gnocchi with a rich Comté cheese sauce. The gnocchi itself had a chewy yet soft texture, with a nutty flavor that came through more the more I chewed.

The rich cheese sauce added even more savory, smooth flavor, and the pistachios on top added a nice textural accent.

The cream sauce was good enough that I think it would be delicious dipped with bread too!

Fresh-pasta bisque pasta

The last dish we ordered was the bisque pasta. It's fresh squid ink spaghetti with a handmade bisque sauce and red shrimp on top. We mixed the noodles and sauce well before digging in.

With so many overly bold, strong-flavored dishes around these days, I was curious how this would taste, but I actually liked that the natural flavor of the shrimp itself came through.

The rich shrimp flavor characteristic of bisque sauce soaked well into the fresh noodles without being overly strong, and combined with the plump shrimp, the seafood flavor really came through. The fresh noodles in particular had a great texture.

Is Burnish Resto worth a weeknight dinner?

After a tiring day, having dinner at Burnish Resto put me in such a good mood. Eating good food slowly in such a pleasant space really made the day feel complete.

Visiting after so long, the napa cabbage salad I'd loved before was still delicious, and the gnocchi and bisque pasta, which I tried for the first time, each had their own distinct charm — it was a satisfying meal overall.

Table at Burnish Resto after finishing the meal

With its cozy atmosphere and variety of seating, this place seems like a great choice not just for dates but for blind dates, anniversaries, or gatherings with friends when you want a nice meal in a pleasant setting. I'll wrap up this post by recommending Burnish Resto to anyone looking for a good pasta restaurant in Dongin-dong. 👋😄👋
