Hongdae noodle restaurant with tablet ordering: Myeon Sikdang

In short

Myeon Sikdang Hongik University Branch is a Japanese-style noodle and rice bowl restaurant right in front of Hongik University and Hongdae Station in Mapo, Seoul. Every seat has its own tablet, so ordering and card payment both happen at the table, and one visit covered shabu rice noodles and a spicy galbi rice bowl with a potato croquette and a mini kimchi buta-don on the side. Solo dining at Myeon Sikdang is about as easy as it gets in Hongdae — easy enough to come back the next day just for the kimchi buta-don.

Why Myeon Sikdang is an easy solo lunch in Hongdae

Entrance to the 2nd-floor Myeon Sikdang Hongik University Branch in Hongdae

When eating alone near Hongdae, what I worry about most is always the atmosphere and seating layout. This time I visited 'Myeon Sikdang Hongdae Branch,' located right near Hongdae Station!! It's a place that covers a wide range of noodle dishes and rice bowls — pork katsu, ramen, rice noodles — and the difficulty level for solo dining was about as 'low' as it gets, so I had a satisfying visit.

How tablet ordering and the self-serve bar work

Myeon Sikdang Hongik University Branch has an individual tablet order system installed at every seat, so you can check the menu, order, and pay by card all from your seat.

There was also a clean restroom inside

On one side there's a self-serve bar where you can freely help yourself to water, kimchi, pickled radish, small plates, and more, as much as you want

They were also running a Naver receipt event. Plus, every Monday they hold a drawing for a free 1-person set meal voucher, so if you visit, definitely make sure to grab that benefit.

Shabu rice noodles topped with plenty of bean sprouts

What the shabu rice noodles and spicy galbi rice bowl taste like

The rice noodles at Myeon Sikdang Hongik University Branch come loaded with bean sprouts, so it was plenty even without adding extra. The broth was clear and delicious too. Dipping the meat and noodles lightly in the hoisin sauce and chili sauce served alongside means you don't get tired of it even until the last bite.

Spicy galbi rice bowl topped with an egg yolk

The spicy galbi bowl was fairly spicy, at least by my low spice tolerance. Over the glossy sweet-and-salty seasoned meat sit shredded green onion and onion, with a fresh egg yolk right in the center — popping the yolk and mixing it in gives a rich, savory finish that's so good! No gamey smell from the meat, and the smoky charred flavor really came through.

Potato croquette ordered as a side

The sides: potato croquette and mini kimchi buta-don

For sides I ordered the potato croquette and mini kimchi buta-don. If you're ordering a side, I absolutely recommend the potato croquette!! Crispy on the outside and packed full inside. The kimchi buta-don was great when you're eating noodles but also craving rice.

Why one visit to Myeon Sikdang turned into two

It was so good that I went back the very next day just for the kimchi buta-don haha. If you're looking for a comfortable place to eat alone near Hongdae, I recommend 'Myeon Sikdang Hongdae Branch.'

Since it's right in front of Hongik University, it seems like a great spot for Hongdae students to visit after class. Prices are low and the menu is varied, so I feel like I wouldn't get tired of it even going every single day.
