Brother and sister's white-broth shabu kalguksu in Busan: Yunujae

In short

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu (hand-cut noodle) restaurant in Munhyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. On her fifth visit the writer brought her younger brother for his first time, and the two ordered white-broth shabu kalguksu for two plus seafood pajeon (green onion pancake) in the quiet stretch before closing, enjoying thick bright-pink beef, minari-and-mushroom broth and springy noodles. With a wide underground parking lot, Yunujae is an easy Munhyeon-dong meal to reach by car.

Ahh, the weather has been so up and down lately, hasn't it? It's exactly the kind of weather that makes me crave something hot and hearty in soup form. Yesterday my sibling and I were hunting for somewhere good to eat, and I immediately thought of a shabu-shabu place I'd loved on a previous visit!

The two of us are secretly kind of picky eaters, and this time my sibling dragged me along, saying there was a Munhyeon-dong spot where you could properly enjoy both shabu-shabu and kalguksu (hand-cut noodles) in one meal.

What kind of restaurant is Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu?

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a shabu-shabu and kalguksu restaurant in Munhyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan. So this is the place I ended up visiting — Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu, the one I'm introducing today! Doesn't the name itself give off this artisan-stubbornness, homey kind of vibe?

Entrance of Yunujae, a Munhyeon-dong must-eat

It's already word-of-mouth famous among food bloggers as a Munhyeon-dong must-eat, so the moment I stepped through the entrance my expectations shot sky-high. Actually, this was already my fifth visit, haha. It was my sibling's first!

Parking and what the dining room feels like

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu has a large underground parking lot in the building, so it's easy to visit by car. The first thing that won me over was this spacious lot! Going out to eat something delicious only to circle endlessly looking for parking totally drains your energy before you even walk in.

But here, there's a big, comfortable, clean underground parking lot right there in the building, so I was able to park my car smoothly and easily. There's plenty of space, so even beginner drivers really don't need to worry at all. It's a Munhyeon-dong must-eat you can visit stress-free if you're driving, so I'm giving it five stars on accessibility right from the start!

Walking inside, the space felt cozy yet so tidy and clean, with plenty of room to spare, which made it unusually comfortable. I'd only ever seen it packed before, so I quickly snapped a photo on our way out around closing time, haha.

White-broth shabu kalguksu for two, plus seafood pajeon

That day at Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu, we ordered white-broth shabu kalguksu for two and one seafood pajeon (savory seafood pancake). The staff greeted us so brightly and kindly that even my sibling, visiting for the first time, felt completely at ease right away. I picked the white broth because I wanted to fully taste the clean, deep flavor of the soup on its own, and of course we coolly added the crispy seafood pajeon as a side — an absolute must here.

It's so popular as a Munhyeon-dong restaurant that they say it gets packed with nearby office workers during the lunch peak, so we deliberately went a little late, near closing, and it was relaxed and just right.

How good is the beef, and what's in the minari-mushroom broth?

Finally the table was set full, and I let out a 'wow' without even meaning to! First off, the color of the meat was on another level — living up to its title as a Busan shabu-shabu must-eat, the meat wasn't thin and cheap-feeling but thick, with a vivid pink freshness that jumped right out at you. Just the sound of the broth bubbling away, loaded with fresh minari (water celery) and mushrooms, was enough to make my mouth water.

I popped a big piece of lightly blanched meat straight into my mouth, and with every bite the savory juices burst out — the texture of the meat was seriously alive, and both of us just made these wide-eyed faces. We took turns with the tongs, no one waiting for the other, and just inhaled it — turns out good food can even stop the chatter.

And honestly, the broth here is insane! The flavor is so deep and rich that the moment you take one spoonful, everything just settles inside you — my sibling said, 'Ah, we absolutely have to come back to Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu,' and I felt so proud! It's not an artificial seasoning taste but a healthy, deep umami that comes straight from the vegetables and meat, so I kept scooping up spoonful after spoonful. Dipping it into the special sauce they serve adds a sweet-and-sour note that made it perfect.

Why the seafood pajeon is worth adding

And then, with perfect timing, out came the seafood pajeon! Everyone, at this place, the seafood pajeon isn't optional — it's absolutely essential. The outside is genuinely as crispy as a cracker, while the inside stays moist, and best of all it's packed edge to edge with plump, generous chunks of seafood, so every bite was fun to chew on.

One bite of the savory, crispy pajeon, then a sip of the hot shabu broth — isn't that the definition of a perfect harmony? Finding a combo this flawless at a Munhyeon-dong restaurant, I couldn't stop smiling the whole meal.

Finishing with the kalguksu noodles and fresh geotjeori kimchi

Once we'd worked our way through most of the meat and pajeon, we dropped in the kalguksu noodles as the finishing touch. It proved once again why this place is known as a Busan kalguksu must-eat, thanks to these chewy noodles. The noodles stayed springy and alive all the way to the last bite without going soft, soaking up all that rich broth — a magic trick where even a full stomach keeps finding room.

Piling the crunchy geotjeori (fresh tossed kimchi), made fresh every day, on top of the kalguksu is basically a knockout combo.

Is Yunujae good for a family dinner or a date?

Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu is a Munhyeon-dong restaurant that works equally well for family gatherings and date courses. Actually, I once brought my parents here before. My parents are really picky eaters and rarely say a meal is delicious no matter where we go, but they were so satisfied, saying the broth was so clean and left them feeling comfortable afterward.

It's a true Munhyeon-dong must-eat that people of all ages, no matter their preferences, can't help but love. It works great as a family gathering spot, and the atmosphere is nice enough that it's also more than fit for a couple's date course. I'm so happy to have found a Munhyeon-dong restaurant that keeps up this kind of quality so reliably.

Nothing is missing here — taste, service, atmosphere, even parking — so Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu instantly rocketed to the top of my mental list of Munhyeon-dong must-eats.

If you want to nourish your body with hot, rich broth, if you're desperately searching for a quality Busan shabu-shabu restaurant, or if you love the chewy noodles of a Busan kalguksu restaurant, don't hesitate — stop by at least once! If you remember Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu for a day when you want a hearty, feel-good meal in Munhyeon-dong, I'm 200% sure you won't regret it.

With the chilly weather these days, I don't think there's a more perfect choice than Yunujae Munhyeon Shabu Kalguksu.
