Store sign explaining the origin of the Hurato Sikdang name

Hurato means "suddenly" or "on a whim," and the name comes from a trip three young people took to Tokyo, Japan one day "on a whim" — they decided to recreate what they tasted there.

The gyukatsu and gyusteki set: grilling the beef yourself

The gyukatsu and gyusteki looked amazing and delicious, so vivid and appetizing~ We were busy snapping photos thinking "gotta capture this," but since it comes rare and you grill it yourself on the tabletop grill, we hurried to dig in~~~

Cross-section of rare, bright red gyukatsu

You grill 1–2 pieces of meat at a time on the hot plate, evenly, about 20–30 seconds per side. Apparently it's done once the surface turns brown~

The gyukatsu's bright red color was so vivid I really wanted to try it, and since it comes rare, you can grill it on your own tabletop grill to your preference — there's real fun in finding your own perfect doneness!!! Since it inevitably ends up well-done the longer you eat, it seemed best to add a few pieces at a time and eat steadily. It's delicious dipped in salt, pairs well with the special sauce, and topped with wasabi and ginger it tastes clean and refreshing~

How is gyusteki different from gyukatsu?

I came wanting gyukatsu, but the gyusteki's visuals were amazing too, and it was delicious and appealing. It's a beef set in the yakiniku style, lightly seared on the surface so you can enjoy tender juices and a savory flavor — the meat quality was great and it just melted away. It has a different charm from the gyukatsu, and while both are on the pricier side, the meat quality is good and it's tasty, so I'd recommend it!

Eating away happily, the flame went out partway through, but the staff checked and relit it right away, so we didn't lose the flow. I won't forget that gyukatsu and gyusteki, perfect down to the last bite...!

Plate of karaage received from the receipt review event
Karaage grilled once more on the tabletop grill

Finishing with the free karaage from the receipt review

We wrote a receipt review and got karaage, and it was funny watching my friend grill it once more on the tabletop grill haha. It gave off this warm-and-crispy vibe?! The sauce was sweet too, so dipping it made for a clean finish, and we ended up happily full — really nice.

This was our first time trying gyukatsu and gyusteki, and it was a success — you should definitely try Hurato Sikdang's signature aged gyukatsu! The pairing of tender gyusteki that melts in your mouth is great too, and there's a Naver review event running where you can participate separately, so it seemed like a good idea to check the free menu and enjoy it together. Walking home, my friend and I kept marveling at how clean and delicious it was, saying we should come back and eat here again sometime~
