Sunday afternoon Bucheon bakery: chestnut loaf to go, Easy White Bread

Today I'm writing up my visit to Easy White Bread Bucheon Sinjung-dong, a bakery in Bucheon's Sinjung-dong neighborhood, which I got to visit through Superchart. There are so many great milk bread bakeries around these days. Since I love bread, whenever I spot a milk bread specialty shop I can't help but stop and look around. This time I was in Sinjung-dong on a Sunday and dropped by Easy White Bread Bucheon Sinjung-dong.

Still baking at 4:30pm on a Sunday at Easy White Bread

I visited Easy White Bread Bucheon Sinjung-dong around 4:30pm on a Sunday. I figured most bakeries would be running low on bread by the afternoon, but here, even during my visit, they were still making, baking, and cooling bread nonstop.

Every milk bread at Easy White is made and sold on the same day, apparently. Each loaf goes through three rounds of fermentation so the layers build up finely, and they use French AOP butter too — as a bread lover, that got me even more excited haha.

Maybe because it's autumn now, but there was a new walnut cranberry rye milk bread on display during my visit.

They were also offering samples of the olive cheese milk bread inside the store, so I tried a piece. Between the cheese and olive combo, it was savory but subtly salty — I thought it would pair really well with coffee.

Milk bread slice thickness: 1.5cm, 2cm or 2.5cm?

At Easy White Bread, they cut the milk bread to your preferred thickness. 1.5cm is good for enjoying lightly with butter or jam, 2cm is said to give the most balanced flavor and texture of the golden beurre bread itself, and 2.5cm is a thick cut best for toast or French toast.

Watching other customers, most of them seemed to pick 2cm lol. Next time I should buy a plain loaf and ask for a 2cm cut too.

Beyond milk bread: jam, cream cheese, gift sets and coffee

The Easy White Bread Bucheon Sinjung-dong store sells not just milk bread but also jam and cream cheese that go well with it. There were gift sets ready too, so it seemed like a good option if you want to give bread as a present to someone special.

There's also a variety of coffee menu items that pair well with milk bread, plus soup on offer, so it looked like a great spot to stop by for a simple breakfast. That's probably why so many customers were buying just bread, while others were ordering coffee along with it. Since you can enjoy coffee here too, it'd be worth a stop for anyone looking for a good café in Sinjung-dong — especially if you're a fan of drip coffee, it's worth checking out as a drip coffee spot too.

Events at Easy White Bread worth checking before you go

There was an event running during my visit too. Leave a Naver receipt review and get a random cream cheese gift! There was also an Instagram follow event you could join at the same time — follow their Instagram and get a random piece of milk bread. Worth keeping in mind if you're planning a visit.

They also sell the fresh fruit milk cream sandwich that's popular these days, but unfortunately it had already sold out by morning when I went. I want to go a bit earlier next time and try it.

What I ordered: soboro chestnut mochi milk bread and brewed iced americano

The two items I received through Superchart were the sobolo chestnut rice cake milk bread half loaf (8,500 won) and an iced americano (brewed coffee, 3,500 won). I packed both to take home and eat there.

There are seats inside the store, but the space isn't very large. There are outdoor seats too, so keep that in mind when you visit. Or you can do what I did and take the bread home to enjoy slowly haha.

Why the chestnut mochi milk bread comes with a cutting knife

They said the milk bread isn't packaged right away — it's cooled for at least 30 minutes before packing. Since what I ordered was the sobolo chestnut rice cake milk bread, they said it couldn't be cut in-store right away, so they gave me a cutting knife to take home instead.

I thought about slicing it neatly with the knife once I got home, but... I just tore it apart by hand instead. Lolololol. Whoa — why is there this much chestnut inside? It really did have way more chestnut than I expected haha.

I started with the smaller end, where there was less chestnut, and even there, sobolo (sweet crumble topping) was piled on top. The distinctive sweet, nutty flavor of the sobolo came through, and the bread itself was soft and moist. Once I got to the chestnut, oh — the word 'chaltteok' (glutinous rice cake) really did fit this milk bread. The sweet nuttiness of the sobolo, the fluffy texture of the chestnut, and the chewy bite of the rice cake in between made it more fun to eat than a plain loaf. Tearing it by hand let me see the layers of the bread clearly, which somehow made it look even more delicious lol.

Easy White Bread runs on a same-day-baked, same-day-sold principle, so I could actually watch the bread being made, and even in the late afternoon when I visited, they were still baking — which made it feel even fresher than I expected.

There's a good variety of milk bread, plus jam, cream cheese, and gift sets, making it great for both eating at home and gifting. With coffee and soup on the menu too, it seemed like a good spot for a simple meal or snack. If you love sweet bread like I do, definitely try the sobolo chestnut rice cake milk bread lol.
