Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant: 3 dipping sauces tried at Furato
In short
Furato Shokudo Seoul Square Direct Store is a gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) restaurant on B1 of Seoul Square, a 5-minute walk from Exit 9 of Seoul Station. Booked through Naver, the gyukatsu set costs 19,500 won and comes with 11 pieces you grill yourself on a mini brazier, tested here with wasabi and salt, a soy-based sauce, and a chili sauce. Wasabi and salt brought out the cleanest beef flavor, while the spicy chili sauce reset the palate whenever the cutlet felt rich.

How to get there from Seoul Station Exit 9

If you're walking, come out Exit 9 of Seoul Station, head to the main entrance of Seoul Square on the 1st floor, and take the escalator down on the left — the restaurant is right there on the left.

The location was easier to find than I expected, just remember it's on B1.
Waiting times and Naver reservations

During peak lunch and dinner hours, you can join the waitlist via Catch Table in front of the restaurant. Naver reservations are also available, and that's how I booked my visit.
Inside Furato Shokudo: solo seats and table layout

The restaurant was clean and bigger than I expected.

There's seating from 2-tops to 4-tops, so it works fine for group visits too.

There's also solo seating, so if you're looking for a solo dining spot near Seoul Station, this could be a good option.

What we ordered: the gyukatsu set at 19,500 won

We ordered the gyukatsu. There's no à la carte option — it only comes as a set.
Grilling 11 pieces of gyukatsu on the mini brazier

The gyukatsu came out 5-10 minutes after ordering. A friend raved about how good this place's gyukatsu is, so I decided to check it out on their recommendation.

It came out in 11 pieces, similar in size to a typical gyukatsu restaurant.

The idea is to grill it yourself on the brazier. It's a mini brazier, and you cook it to your own liking.

Butter came as a free side. Personally, grilling with butter really brings out the flavor.
I started grilling piece by piece. First I tried one plain, with nothing added.

The meat had a nice color from the start. A thin coating is a characteristic feature of gyukatsu.

The butter comes as one serving per two people, so you have to use it little by little.
But even this small amount gives off a deep buttery aroma, haha.

Cooking it to about medium-well was personally the tastiest for me.
Three sauces compared: wasabi and salt, soy sauce, chili sauce

Wasabi plus salt is my favorite combination. It's the flavor that lets you enjoy the cleanest, tastiest side of the gyukatsu. It's not too oily, so you can enjoy it without feeling greasy.

The sauce has a sweet soy-based flavor with good umami — the kind of taste kids would love.

When things start to feel a bit greasy, dipping into the chili sauce refreshes your palate. It's slightly spicy, and it's my favorite sauce!!

Even lightly cooked, the meat wasn't tough at all.
The sides: cabbage salad, rice, and pickled peppers

I kept eating the cabbage salad that came with it while continuing to grill more meat.
The rice that comes with the set has flakes sprinkled on top, giving it a savory, rice-ball-like flavor.

Eating it together with the pickled peppers made for a really great combination. The gyukatsu here wasn't too oily and let the natural flavor of the meat come through — it was genuinely delicious.
Final verdict on gyukatsu at Furato Shokudo

Overall, I was really satisfied with Furato Shokudo Seoul Square 🥩 I loved that the gyukatsu set comes out crispy on the outside and tender inside, letting you grill it bit by bit on the hot plate to your own taste. Since you're not grilling everything at once but only as much as you're about to eat, it stays warm right to the last bite, which made it even tastier, haha.
Above all, the atmosphere didn't feel awkward at all for solo dining, so I think it's a solid option for anyone looking for a place to eat alone near Seoul Station. If you're craving gyukatsu around Seoul Station, this is a good pick to look up as a Seoul Station gyukatsu restaurant, and being inside Seoul Square also makes it easy to reach. If you're looking for a Seoul Square restaurant for a hearty meal in a clean setting, this one's worth keeping in mind :)
