Cheonan sashimi restaurant work dinner with two-abalone stew: Donghae

Today I visited Donghae Bada Hoetjip, a well-known spot in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan. You can enjoy assorted sashimi, seafood stew and seafood jjim all together here, and both the food and the spacious seating and parking were great. It seemed especially good for group gatherings like work dinners or family get-togethers. Here's my honest review~ 😊

Parking and seating: a large lot right in front

Donghae Bada Hoetjip, a good pick for a Dujeong-dong meal or a work dinner in Cheonan, has a large parking lot right in front. It was really convenient to have zero parking worries when driving there.

The restaurant itself is spacious and clean overall, with both private rooms and hall tables available. It looked like a great choice for family meals as well as group gatherings or work dinners with several people.

Donghae Bada Hoetjip menu: fresh seafood and plenty of choices

Donghae Bada Hoetjip is a Dujeong-dong seafood restaurant where you can enjoy fresh seafood alongside a wide variety of menu options. The menu was more diverse than I expected — assorted sashimi, seafood stew, seafood jjim, monkfish stew, lobster seafood stew, grilled salted king prawns, mulhoe (cold raw fish soup) and more are all available. It seemed like a great place for a group to visit and pick dishes according to everyone's taste.

What comes in the 2-person sashimi and seafood stew set?

I wanted to have both sashimi and seafood stew, so I ordered both dishes. First the assorted sashimi and bluefin tuna sashimi came out, along with a variety of banchan (side dishes) laid out with the sashimi.

Seaweed soup, jeon (savory pancake), bossam (boiled pork wraps), salad, and grilled fish all came out one by one, and the spread was more generous than I expected. There was already so much to eat before the main dishes even arrived, which would make it even more satisfying for a group visit.

Sashimi that melts in your mouth

The sashimi came as seasonal sashimi plus bluefin tuna sashimi. Overall the fish was fresh with a soft texture, so each piece felt like it melted right in my mouth. The bluefin tuna sashimi in particular was soft yet savory — delicious on its own, and it also paired well with a light dip of soy sauce or wasabi.

Seaweed also came out to eat alongside the tuna sashimi, and wrapping the tuna in the seaweed added an extra savory kick — a real treat. It was so soft that even wrapped and eaten in one bite, it just melted away!

Alternating between the two types of sashimi, each had a slightly different texture and flavor, which made for a fun comparison as I ate. The slices were cut thick, so even one piece filled my mouth with the full flavor of the fish! If you love sashimi, you'll enjoy trying each one.

Seafood stew with two whole abalone

And then the seafood stew I ordered alongside! It was packed with such a wide variety of seafood that it looked generous just from the sight of it.

It was loaded with conch, abalone, shrimp, octopus, squid, scallop, various clams, plus blue crab with roe and milt.

The octopus especially was huge and hearty, catching my eye right away, and the scallops were also large. There were even two big abalone in there — as a seafood lover, I was completely satisfied!

Maybe because it was so full of seafood, the broth had a clean, refreshing taste. The roe in particular was firm and chewy with great texture, and it was really delicious eaten together with the broth.

After the sashimi and then the spicy, warming seafood stew broth, I finished a whole bowl of rice without even noticing 😋

Why Donghae Bada Hoetjip suits group gatherings and work dinners

Overall, this was a satisfying spot with a generous spread from sashimi all the way to seafood stew. The seafood stew with its large, varied seafood was especially memorable, and with the spacious restaurant and parking lot, it was easy to visit with several people. If you're looking for a place for a work dinner, family meal, or group gathering in Dujeong-dong, Cheonan, Donghae Bada Hoetjip is worth a visit :)
