Seogwipo seafood restaurant for braised cutlassfish: Cheonghaewon

Is it well located for a meal before visiting Seongsan Ilchulbong?

While traveling around eastern Jeju, I stopped by Jejurowoon Cheonghaewon Seongsan Ilchulbong Branch (제주로운청해원 성산일출봉점) with a friend. It is on the first floor at 101 Sinyang-ro in Seongsan-eup, close to eastern attractions including Seongsan Ilchulbong, Seopjikoji, Aqua Planet Jeju, and Gwangchigi Beach, so it was easy to plan a meal into our route. We went for braised cutlassfish and grilled tilefish before looking around Seongsan Ilchulbong.

Is it suitable for families or larger groups?

The interior was more spacious than I expected, and the tables were not crowded together. It was kept tidy overall, so we could eat comfortably. I thought it would be a reasonable meal stop for a trip with family or parents, as well as for a group traveling together.

What comes with the meal set we ordered?

We ordered a meal with braised cutlassfish, grilled tilefish, and seafood stew. The original post lists the price as ₩24,000, but it is not clear whether that is per person or for the full set. Pot-cooked rice and soy-marinated crab were also included, so we could try several dishes at once.

How spicy is the braised cutlassfish, and what is the grilled tilefish like?

The braised cutlassfish was savory and spicy, with the seasoning soaked in. To my taste, it was not excessively spicy, but at a level that went well with rice.

The doenjang seafood ttukbaegi (soybean-paste seafood stew) was good for spooning up warm broth between bites of fish. With the braised cutlassfish, grilled tilefish, pot-cooked rice, soy-marinated crab, and broth, the two of us had a filling meal.

The grilled tilefish was golden and crisp outside, with a mild interior. I also liked eating the flesh and skin together. Alternating it with the spicy braised cutlassfish, the two fish dishes paired well.

How did we eat the pot-cooked rice and side dishes?

The basic side dishes were neatly presented and tasty. We could get more of any side dishes we needed from the self-service bar.

I liked the chal sotbap (sticky rice cooked in a pot), which was warm and pleasantly chewy. I ate it with a piece of cutlassfish and a little sauce, and also picked the meat from the grilled tilefish to have with it. Both fish dishes went well with the warm pot-cooked rice.

Soy-marinated crab was included too, making the spread feel more abundant. The set let us have small portions of several seafood dishes alongside the braised cutlassfish and grilled tilefish.

Where did we go after the meal?

After finishing our meal, we headed straight to Seongsan Ilchulbong. We had eaten well and took our time looking around; with the good weather and scenery, I liked how the day’s route came together.

The hours listed in the original post are 08:00–21:30, with last orders at 21:00. It says the restaurant operates without a break time, which I felt would make it convenient to fit a meal around sightseeing plans. It was a meal route where I ate several dishes with a friend in a spacious, tidy dining room, then visited Seongsan Ilchulbong.
