Looking for a hearty meal near Suseong Lake in Suseong-gu, Daegu, I ended up at Haenyeo Sotbap Suseong Direct Store.

Inside the restaurant: dining room and private-room seating
The first thing I noticed walking in was that the interior was bigger and more comfortable than I expected.
The ceilings are especially high, so nothing felt cramped, and there was plenty of space between tables to eat comfortably.

When you're looking for somewhere to take family out to eat, or to bring your parents, the atmosphere matters as much as the food. On that front, Haenyeo Sotbap Suseong Direct Store had a really comfortable vibe.

What we ordered at Haenyeo Sotbap and what it cost
Haenyeo Sotbap Suseong Direct Store's signature menu is abalone sotbap, eel sotbap, seafood ttukbaegi and Eonyang-style bulgogi sotbap.

- ✔️Wando Sea-Diver Abalone Sotbap 23.0
- ✔️1988 Namsan-dong Pork Cutlet 20.0
Best of the 13 banchan: grilled mackerel and sweet-and-sour mushrooms
A generous spread of 13 side dishes

The grilled mackerel and sweet-and-sour mushrooms (tangsuyuk-style) also came out, and they were so, so good

The mushroom tangsuyuk that comes as a basic side dish at this Korean restaurant near Suseong Lake, Daegu, is genuinely delicious!!

Every single side dish was good

How was the Wando Sea-Diver Abalone Sotbap?
✔️Savory, filling abalone sotbap
With sotbap, the best moment is always opening the lid. Eating the warm rice together with abalone was savory and filling, and satisfying as a full meal.

There's a warm, tidy feeling that's particular to sotbap, so it felt like a good pick to bring your parents too.
Best of all, sotbap stays warm right down to the last bite.
It's a dish that's easy to enjoy slowly, and it suited a day when I was craving hearty Korean food.

Eating it with the seaweed and sauce that came alongside, plus all the namul (seasoned vegetable) side dishes, felt like proper nourishment

The seaweed soup was also so good haha and the sungnyung was so nutty and delicious!! It'd be faster to find something NOT delicious at this restaurant in Suseong-gu, Daegu, Haenyeo Sotbap Suseong Direct Store
1988 Namsan-dong Pork Cutlet: the right dish for kids
✔️1988 Namsan-dong Pork Cutlet

It was quietly great that a sotbap specialty restaurant also lets you order pork cutlet.

Adults can eat Korean dishes like abalone sotbap or eel sotbap, while kids can pick the familiar pork cutlet — good for family outings with children. The crispy cutlet and the sotbap also paired well together on the table.

Good to know: receipt-review grilled abalone and side dish refills
⭕️Post a Naver receipt review and get 2 pieces of grilled abalone
⭕️If you want extra side dishes, tap 'call staff' then 'extra side dishes' on the tablet and a staff member will come by — though the grilled mackerel and mushroom tangsuyuk can't be re-ordered haha

The grilled abalone I got from the Naver receipt review, dipped in its nutty innard sauce, was also delicious!!

Dessert at the end: coffee and mango slush
After the meal, there's a self-serve setup with coffee and slush you can have as much as you like.

There was ice ready too, which is super convenient for ice-lovers in the middle of summer!!
The mango slush from Haenyeo Sotbap Suseong Direct Store I had to cleanse my palate!! So good, nom nom
Is Haenyeo Sotbap Suseong Direct Store worth it for a family meal?

The space is spacious with high ceilings, so it felt comfortable, and I liked that there's a range of menu choices from sotbap to pork cutlet, making it a good spot to visit as a family. Especially when eating out with parents and kids together, it can be hard to pick a restaurant when everyone wants something different. With Korean dishes like abalone sotbap and eel sotbap alongside pork cutlet, this felt like a place that works well across different age groups.
