Daegu family restaurant for oven mackerel with parents: Geumdeungeo

Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch (금등어 들안길 본점) is a Korean restaurant in Suseong, Daegu, specializing in oven-grilled mackerel. The writer's family ordered the oven-grilled mackerel, served moist with nuruk salt (fermented-grain salt), and sweet-spicy jeyuk bokkeum (stir-fried pork). They also had plenty of banchan (side dishes) from the self-bar and apricot juice and coffee for dessert. With a spacious dining room and tower parking (free for 1 hour 30 minutes), Geumdeungeo Deulanguil Main Branch was a satisfying place for a family meal with parents.

Ordering Geumdeungeo's mild oven-grilled mackerel together with its sweet-and-spicy flame-grilled pork makes an easy, comfortable family meal with parents.

Jangjak Saenggalbi Jongno Main Branch (벽돌생갈비 종로점) is a Korean BBQ restaurant on the main street of Jongno in Jung-gu, Daegu, where staff grill raw galbi over charcoal for you. After a satisfying first visit with their parents, the writer returned with a younger sibling, ordered 250g each of raw galbi and marinated galbi (29,000 won each), and finished with mul naengmyeon (cold noodles in broth, 7,000 won) topped with marinated galbi. On the second visit the grilling service and tender meat at Jangjak Saenggalbi were just as good, making it a recommended choice for Korean BBQ in Jongno.

Snow crab restaurant in Gijang, Busan for parents: pre-cut bakdal crab

Gijang Myeongpum Daegae (기장명품대게) is a snow crab restaurant tucked inside Gijang Market in Gijang-gun, Busan, where you pick a crab from the tank and it is steamed right away and cut up so it is easy to eat. On a Gijang outing with my parents, we chose a bakdal snow crab and also had the self-serve bar, fried rice in the crab shell and doenjang-jjigae (soybean paste stew), and the restaurant's own parking lot with an exit coin made driving there easy. Gijang Myeongpum Daegae suits anyone who wants to treat their parents to a snow crab meal without the hassle of cracking shells.
