Fillet katsu set plus karaage at Pangyo tonkatsu spot Katsu Shokudo

I was looking for somewhere to eat lunch alone near Pangyo Station. I heard there was a good tonkatsu (breaded pork cutlet) place around the station, so I went to check it out. Here's my review of the fillet katsu and karaage (Japanese fried chicken) I tried at Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch.

Where is Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch?

Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch is on the basement level of Alphadom Tower 3, right by Pangyo Station. It's easy to get to from around the station, so it seemed like a fine spot for office workers to drop by on their lunch break.

I went alone this time, and the atmosphere didn't feel awkward for solo dining at all. If you're looking for a solid solo lunch in Pangyo, this is worth putting on your list.

Inside Katsu Shokudo: solo seats and tablet ordering

The interior was clean and well organized overall. There were various table options — solo seats, two-person tables, and four-person tables.

At Katsu Shokudo Pangyo Main Branch, each table has its own small tablet for ordering, so you choose your menu and pay directly on it. There's no need to flag down staff, which made it easy and low-pressure to use as a solo diner.

When you're grabbing lunch near Pangyo Station, you often end up looking for somewhere simple to eat by yourself, and being able to order and eat comfortably from start to finish was a nice touch.

What comes with the 18,000 won fillet katsu set?

I ordered the fillet katsu set. It's 18,000 won and comes with the fillet cutlet along with mini udon, cabbage salad, wasabi, rice, and clear soup.

You can choose between cold soba or hot udon for the mini noodle side, and I went with the hot udon.

Rather than just a plate of tonkatsu on its own, it came with rice, soup, and sides all together, which made it feel like a pretty complete meal.

I personally tend to eat a lot of rice with this kind of food, so I was glad the rice portion was generous.

How did the fillet cutlet taste?

The first thing I noticed taking a bite of the fillet cutlet was that it wasn't greasy.

Tonkatsu is a fried dish, so a few bites in you often start reaching for the soup or salad to cut the richness, but the fillet katsu I had this time stayed relatively clean-tasting from the first bite to the last.

The breading on the outside had a crisp texture but didn't separate from the meat, and you could really taste the tender texture that fillet cutlet is known for.

Adding a bit of wasabi here and there gave it a cleaner taste that I personally thought paired well.

I didn't try it myself, but rice, salad, and soup refills are all available. That's probably great news for anyone who wants to eat plenty of tonkatsu and rice.

Is the karaage side worth adding?

I also ordered karaage as a side. What I liked most about it was the breading.

Sometimes when you order karaage, it's mostly breading thicker than the meat itself with barely any actual chicken inside, which can be disappointing.

The karaage here had a relatively thin coating on the outside and properly held chicken on the inside, so each bite felt substantial.

Crisp on the outside with plenty of chicken inside, it was a solid side to add. That said, the fillet katsu set is already quite filling on its own, so for a typical lunch you probably don't need to add a side to feel satisfied!
