Why I visited Chodaechang Baekseok Branch, a daechang spot near Baekseok Station

Chodaechang Baekseok Branch (초대창 백석점) is a daechang grill restaurant in the Baekseok food alley near Baekseok Station, and it has been on the Blue Ribbon list three years running, 2024 to 2026. The writer says this is the first place where they found their "life-changing daechang" haha.

Finding a proper daechang (beef large intestine) place isn't as easy as it sounds these days, right? It's pricey, and if it smells funky or is tough, you're so disappointed. Even at the famous spots, the smoke can make everything hectic and uncomfortable!!!!!!!! But Chodaechang near Baekseok Station was, for the first time in a long while... no, actually for the first time ever, my life-changing daechang haha. Being a three-year Blue Ribbon place..!! I had high expectations and it didn't let me down.

Location, hours and parking at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch

Chodaechang Baekseok Branch is at 39 Gangsong-ro 87beon-gil, Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, on the first floor, and is open daily from 16:00 to 24:00. It sits inside the Baekseok food alley, and there's plenty of parking in front, so driving was easy. I parked there!!

A big Blue Ribbon mark was posted at the entrance. I'm the type who trusts Blue Ribbon restaurants blindly haha. The tables were clean too :)

What's in the assorted A set? Daechang, makchang, teugyang and heart, 640g

I ordered the assorted A set, which lets you eat daechang, makchang (beef large intestine, another cut), teugyang (abomasum) and heart all at once. A whole 640g! With so many cuts to try, it felt perfect for first-time visitors.

Best of all, the staff grill everything for you, which was really convenient.

Side dishes and sauces

The side dishes are a slightly light lineup, served neatly.. :) They go really well with the daechang, and having two sauces made it even better.

Grilling order: heart goes first

The staff grilled the heart first. Heart can turn tough if it cooks too long, so they grill it first so you can eat it at its best moment. It was seasoned, which surprised me, but you barely taste the seasoning!?

Lightly grilled heart.. I ate it with the recommended sauce and my companion said it was delicious!! :) One bite for me: clean with no gamey smell, mild and chewy haha.

Then they grilled the daechang and teugyang together! Look at that daechang, oh my.. T_T

Chodaechang's teugyang: tough or smelly?

The teugyang at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch had no toughness or smell at all!!!! Teugyang is something I always order at a daechang restaurant, but if it's done badly it can be tough or smelly, right!?!?

Every bite had that distinctive teugyang flavor, and topping it with gim wasabi cut the richness and brought out even more savoriness, so I enjoyed it so much haha. Crunchy and delicious..

It's tasty dipped in the sauce too.

For a meal, try the doenjang sujeongbap

I'd originally been thinking about the teugyang fried rice, but that day the doenjang sujeongbap (rice in a soybean paste broth) was calling me hahaha. It's rice in a rich, savory doenjang broth, and it isn't just plain doenjang stew; having the rice in it makes it so good T_T

Daechang plus doenjang rice is a combo I personally really recommend T_T!!!!!!

How's the daechang? The taste of my life-changing daechang from 10 years ago

The daechang here is crispy outside, juicy inside, with rich, nutty fat, and the writer says it was the best daechang they've had lately. And then... the big moment, the daechang haha. I was truly shocked at the first bite hahaha.

Actually, about 10 years ago there was a daechang specialist I absolutely loved. It's gone now, but it was so good I still remember it. I've been to countless daechang places since, but never found that taste again. Yet the moment I ate Chodaechang's daechang, that memory came right back T_T Seriously... it was so insanely good, and before grilling we'd been talking about that place, and I was like, wait, that's the place..?!?!

Insanely delicious.... I wanted to order just more daechang..

Honestly the best daechang I've had recently T_T It felt like meeting my life-changing daechang again after ages!!!!!! It lives up to the name Chodaechang..

Chodaechang Baekseok Branch is a place I really want to recommend!!!!!!!!!! Especially if you're like me and still can't forget the daechang of your memories, you'll likely be even more satisfied!!! Next visit, I'll add a daechang-only order without a second thought and enjoy it properly!!!!!!! Recommended! :)
