Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch (큰사위 오리집 부천옥길본점) is a duck restaurant in Okgil-dong, Bucheon, where you can eat a good-value full duck course. I suddenly had a craving for duck, searched for somewhere close to home, and found it. It said you could get a full duck course for a reasonable price, so I hurried over for dinner.

Thanks to that, I found a great-value restaurant in Okgil-dong, Bucheon, and had a really filling meal. For the record, what we ate was the 'Keunsawi Special'.

What are the opening hours and parking like?

Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch is open 11:00–21:30, with last order at 20:40 and a break from 15:30 to 16:30. The address is 57-10 Yeondong-ro, Sosa-gu, Bucheon, Gyeonggi, South Korea (1st floor).

Parking is available, and the lot is bigger than it looks in the photo. There is also parking space on the side. Maybe because parking is easy, there seemed to be a lot of people coming with kids or with older parents.

Is there a wait on weekday evenings?

I went around 6pm on a weekday and there was a wait, with 2 groups ahead of us. Before going in, I noticed things like jegichagi (a kicked shuttlecock game), ttakji (paper-tile flipping) and gonggi (jacks-style stone game) at the door and wondered why they were there. It turns out Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch is popular enough to have a wait.

So while you wait, you can play these nostalgic games, or sit on the chairs beside the door.

I didn't know there would be a wait and walked in with my kid, but they told us we had to wait, so we registered our place in line at the kiosk and went outside. It's a good-value duck place, so it really is popular. Honestly, that's exactly why I came too. The Keunsawi Special course I had comes with lots of different dishes, so I think it's the one to pick whoever you go with.

The inside is large. Even big groups can sit and eat comfortably. Still, since Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch is so popular, I think you should call ahead and ask. We went on a weekday, and once dinner time came we still had to wait before eating.

How much is duck dori-tang takeout and the Keunsawi Special course?

Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch does takeout too. If you order 2 duck dori-tang (spicy duck stew), you get 1 more, and since it comes uncooked, it's perfect to take home and boil. You can get all this for ₩35,800, which made me think, yes, this is good value.

The Keunsawi Special course we ordered is ₩23,900 per person, and we ordered it for 2. The course includes the items below. The perilla baeksuk comes as half a chicken per 2 people.

How many portions should you order with a child?

At Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch, people aged 8 and over must order one menu item each. My kid is 7, so we ordered for just 2 people.

What's at the self-serve bar?

The self-serve bar has gondre (thistle) rice, geotjeori (fresh kimchi), sauce for the steamed duck, seaweed soup and white rice. My husband and I had the gondre rice, and I gave our kid white rice with seaweed soup. How to eat the main dishes is written above the kiosk, so just check that and follow along.

How does the steamed duck on cypress wood come out?

The Keunsawi Special course starts with the steamed duck on cypress wood. It comes covered with a lid and a timer placed right on top. Leave it for about 10 minutes and a staff member comes by on their own to take away the timer and lid. There's more than one staff member, so they keep walking around and checking on you, which I liked.

Next are the vegetable add-ons, rice cake add-ons and three-color fried rice that come out early. The vegetables and rice cakes go into the duck dori-tang, so don't add them yet, and the fried rice is eaten after you finish the stew, so just move it to the side.

Basic side dishes come out too, and they go nicely with the stew or the steamed duck. Honestly, though, the main dishes are delicious enough even without them. The sides add a richer flavor, but it was plenty tasty without them.

How to enjoy the gondre shiitake rice

The gondre (thistle) shiitake mushroom rice at the self-serve bar of Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch has free refills, and if you add the seasoning and finish with sesame oil, it becomes really delicious rice. While the steamed duck was cooking, I went and got some gondre shiitake rice, and I liked that you can eat as much as you want. It was so good that I went back for a second helping.

Duck seaweed soup for kids

There was also duck seaweed soup meant for children under 8, but adults were taking it too. While waiting for my turn, I saw tables with no kids at all taking it back to eat. It's mainly for young children, but it's not off-limits to anyone.

The note above the kiosk says it's boiled mildly and asks you to leave it for the children, so think of it as light and mild rather than rich.

Perilla baeksuk: order more or not?

The Keunsawi Special course includes half a chicken of perilla baeksuk (boiled chicken soup) as standard, and you can also order a whole one à la carte for ₩8,000. After I got our rice, my kid's rice and the soup and sat down, the half chicken of perilla baeksuk arrived. If you like it after trying it, it's fine to order more.

It was really delicious. I wanted to order more, but my husband said we could order later if we weren't full after trying everything, so I said okay. I'm glad I listened to him. After this, plus the steamed duck, the stew and the fried rice, I was crazy full. A pity, but we left it for next time.

At Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch, I think it's better to order the course like we did instead of single dishes. Going from gondre rice to steamed duck, baeksuk, stew and fried rice, it tasted good and left me feeling solidly full. Since fried rice comes at the very end, you shouldn't skip the gondre rice. It's really good and whets your appetite, so I recommend having at least a little before the main dishes.

Did the 7-year-old eat well?

I gave my 7-year-old rice, seaweed soup, steamed duck and perilla baeksuk, and everything went down well. Later I fished only the duck out of the dori-tang for the kid, and that went down well too.

The duck dori-tang itself is a little spicy and looked hard for a kid to eat. So I picked out only the duck meat, and my kid ate it well even while saying it was spicy.

Wrapping it in perilla leaves or radish wraps was good, but at Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch the main dishes alone are plenty tasty. For the steamed duck sauces I took chili sauce and peanut sauce, and as we ate, only the chili sauce ran out. My husband and I must have similar tastes, because only the chili sauce disappeared.

The duck dori-tang is under the steamed duck

In the Keunsawi Special course, the duck dori-tang is in the pot under the steamed duck from the start, and when the staff remove the steamer, the stew appears. You can drop the vegetable and rice cake add-ons that came out first straight into it. The staff don't bring the stew separately; the steamed duck was simply sitting on top of the pot from the beginning.

The vegetable add-ons weren't plain or ordinary; they were full of healthy things. Seeing them, I thought ordering the set at Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch was a really good call. It felt like filling up on good things one by one. I think it would be great to bring parents too. Even with just this course, I think elderly people would like it. I know duck is good for you, so I eat it often, and that day I really had my fill.

How big are the portions?

The duck dori-tang in the Keunsawi Special course for 2 is a huge amount, so if I hadn't listened to my husband and had ordered another baeksuk, we'd have been in trouble. It was so good I wanted to keep eating, but even by then I was close to bursting. The amount was so big that even after I fished out only the duck for our kid, they couldn't finish it. In the end we each scooped some into our own small plates and mixed the fried rice in.

Add sesame oil to the three-color fried rice

When eating the fried rice, it's good to add the sesame oil from the self-serve bar. It's wonderfully nutty. Even a little makes a big difference in taste, so I personally recommend drizzling it on. You can do without it, but with it you get an even better flavor.

Would I go again?

If you're looking for a good restaurant in Okgil-dong, Bucheon, definitely try Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch. If you love duck, I recommend going without hesitation. Our family likes duck, so we'll probably go often. I really like that it comes as a course like at Keunsawi Ori Jip Bucheon Okgil Main Branch. Next time I'd like to bring my parents too.
