Today I went to a Chinese restaurant in Yeonnam-dong, Hongdae. It was my first time trying Peking duck and honestly it was insanely good (─‿‿─) The side dishes were also super satisfying, so I brought you this review. Let me introduce Panda Dim Sum in Yeonnam-dong, Hongdae!

The Panda Dim Sum sign was so cute, haha — is that a red panda? The panda is eating dim sum... so adorable. You need to climb the stairs carefully, it's on the 2nd floor!
Walking in, I got a clean, tidy feeling right away. The kitchen, chairs, tables — all well arranged, and the interior really felt like a Chinese restaurant. There were Chinese-style props here and there, and Kung Fu Panda was playing on the wall, which was great lol. It really felt like coming for authentic Chinese food!
Panda Dim Sum menu and what to order together
Here's the menu — I loved how varied the Chinese dishes were. I love Korean and Chinese food the most haha. There are lots of rice bowl and noodle dishes too, and gaoliang liquor is on the menu!
We ordered half a Peking duck for ₩39,000, Chinese-style tonkotsu for ₩13,500, and xiaolongbao for ₩8,000.
Highly recommend everything we ordered. Especially the Peking duck and Chinese-style tonkotsu combo — that was the absolute best.
The tableware was set so neatly (ㅅ´ ˘ `) — as you'll see in the photos below, the plating was really pretty and clean too!
Half Peking duck for 39,000 won and how to wrap it
The Peking duck came out first — the visuals were insane... the plating was so pretty, with crispy skin piled on top, argh.
Here's how to eat Peking duck: on the thin wheat pancake served alongside (apparently called baobing or yabing in Chinese!), you layer on scallion, cucumber, and duck meat, then wrap it up well.
Then you dip it in the accompanying sauce and sugar, depending on your taste. I'm not a big fan of sweetness so I only used the sauce. Genuinely, insanely good, ugh. Visuals: pass. Taste: pass.
Also there's crispy skin piled on top, and that's the real delicacy... the skin was delicious even without any sauce or sugar. We ordered the half portion but it tasted like I wanted a whole duck. I never knew duck could be this good.
My friend and I really love scallion so we asked if we could get a bit more, and they gave us this much... such a touching moment. The scallion went so well with the Peking duck.
Chinese tonkotsu for 13,500 won: thick noodles in a spicy, clean broth
Ahhh and this was genuinely so good. It's literally Chinese-style tonkotsu, loaded with meat, and the broth was spicy yet savory, so my friend and I kept scooping up the broth over and over. It made us crave gaoliang liquor lol. Sadly we couldn't drink, but it honestly felt like a hangover cure.
I genuinely want to go back and eat this again, no lie. I personally prefer thick noodles over thin ones, and these were nice and plump, so filling in the mouth.ᐟ.ᐟ You have to try the Chinese-style tonkotsu.
Xiaolongbao for 8,000 won as a side
We also ordered xiaolongbao (soup dumplings) as a side, and right after we ordered it sold out. Total luck.
You know xiaolongbao — that broth inside... it wasn't served piping hot so it was easy to eat, savory and chewy, so good, ugh. After stuffing ourselves on Peking duck and Chinese-style tonkotsu, popping one xiaolongbao completely cleansed the palate.
Is Panda Dim Sum worth a second visit?
I think this place is genuinely a great restaurant, and I'm not saying this because I got a meal voucher — I really, really want to come back. As a Chinese food lover, I approve.
The combo of the three dishes we ordered was so good. If you're going here, please try that exact combo!
