Yeon-dong Jeju Japanese restaurant for solo diners: Kkotdam Sushi

Japanese food is my absolute favorite! And since I'm in Jeju, sashimi and sushi are a must. I visited Kkotdam Sushi (꽃담초밥) in Orai-dong~

There's a bus stop right in front of the building, so it's easy to reach for those taking public transportation too.

Solo-friendly seating and the open kitchen at Kkotdam Sushi

Inside Kkotdam Sushi there are tables for 2, 4, and 8, so it works well for solo dining, solo drinking, friends, couples, small gatherings, or even bringing your parents. The staff were kind, which made for a pleasant time, and it seemed like there were plenty of regulars — the owner had a lively, energetic personality.

Because the kitchen is open, you can see directly how clean and hygienic it is, which gave me confidence. You can even watch the owner making the sushi ;)

Kkotdam Sushi menu and prices

Kkotdam Sushi is a Japanese restaurant specializing in sashimi and sushi, located in Jeongsil, Orai-dong, Jeju. You can try a wide variety of dishes here! The drink menu is also varied, with soju, beer, sake, and wine.

The basic side dishes that go well with sashimi came out: ginger, rakkyo (pickled shallots), baek-kimchi (white kimchi), salad, and jangguk (savory broth). The salad and broth felt like an appetizer and were delicious enough that I asked for a refill haha.

The solo mini sashimi set, 35,000 won

Since I was dining alone, I chose the mini sashimi, a menu item made for one person to enjoy easily. Sashimi normally starts at a two-person portion, which makes a hefty amount to finish solo, but Kkotdam Sushi's mini sashimi option is great for solo dining and solo drinking.

Mini sashimi, ₩35,000. The plating was so beautifully done that it looked even more appetizing and upscale. Highly recommend this menu if you're visiting alone!

Fresh whelk sukhoe (blanched whelk), caught in Tongyeong! Chewy and sweet — genuinely delicious.

Four kinds of sashimi came out in total! Just looking at them, they glistened and looked so fresh.

Salmon, tuna, and red seabream were served, though note that the sashimi types may vary depending on availability. Each bite was thick and the fish was plump.

And the one that especially suited my taste — the red seabream roll(?). The vegetables(?) inside paired really well with the fish.

The mini sashimi also comes with a shiitake wasabi sauce — placing it on top of the fish and eating it together, the chewy mushroom texture paired really nicely.

What comes with the assorted sushi 12pcs, 19,000 won

Assorted sushi 12pcs, ₩19,000. Made with carefully selected fresh ingredients, this is quality sushi through and through. The sashimi was good, but the sushi was even better!!! It comes with 12 kinds total, including seasonal fish, flounder, bigeye tuna, salmon, king shrimp, yukhoe (beef tartare), fried tofu pouch, seared swordfish, beef, and imitation crab. Note that the sushi selection may also vary depending on availability.

Ordering the sushi also comes with fried shrimp plus dessert udon, so it's even more filling. From sashimi to sushi, it was a proper full meal — hearty and satisfying.
