Suwon pizza restaurant lunch set with bread and soup: The European
In short
The European Haenggung Main Branch is a wood-fired pizza restaurant in a converted house in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, where a chef formerly of the Shilla Hotel makes the pizzas. While waiting 1 hour 30 minutes for a ring pickup at a nearby ring workshop, the writer ordered the 2-person lunch add-on (bread + 2 soups + drinks), the signature jambon truffle fungi pizza and Bolognese lasagna. Tongs came instead of a pizza server, so the toppings stayed put, and the chandelier-lit room suits a date or a group get-together.

Why the writer chose this Haenggung-dong pizza restaurant while waiting for a ring pickup
My husband and I tried on couple rings at Loventa Ring Studio and were told the finished rings would take about 90 minutes, so we decided to grab lunch nearby while we waited. I searched for pizza restaurants in Haenggung-dong, Suwon, and up popped The European Haenggung Main Branch.
My husband had actually been asking to go get pizza for a while, so we headed straight there without a second thought. Want to come along and taste the pizza made by a chef who used to work at the Shilla Hotel?

A converted house exterior and chandelier seating
I loved the charming exterior of the converted house, so I opened the door feeling excited. The entrance was decorated with such a cute, detailed touch that I liked it right away. Pizza made by the hands of a Shilla Hotel chef — my expectations were sky high!!!

Inside, the fiery red carpet and curtains made a strong impression.

Following the beautiful chandeliers, I noticed there seemed to be seating further back, and sure enough, a spacious, atmospheric room opened up. The pretty chandeliers were the centerpiece, giving the space a luxurious feel.

QR code ordering and what the 2-person lunch add-on includes
We wanted to watch the pizza being made while we ate, so we sat near the kitchen. You order via QR code at the table, and pay at the counter on your way out — just so you know. We ordered the 2-person lunch add-on (bread + 2 soups + drink), the signature jambon truffle fungi pizza, and the Bolognese lasagna.

For drinks, my husband chose iced Americano and I chose iced Earl Grey. The coffee was rich and nutty, and the Earl Grey was light and fragrant, pairing nicely with the pizza.

Baguette, mushroom soup and house-made pickles
The dipping sauce for the bread seemed to be olive oil mixed with balsamic, but it tasted surprisingly like vinegar soy sauce — interesting!

The baguette was crispy and nutty, with a taste that reminded me of grilled garaetteok (Korean rice cake) — familiar. I loved catching a Korean flavor in a Western restaurant!!!

The mushroom soup had a strong mushroom aroma and was pleasantly salty — perfect for dipping the bread.
The pickles looked like thinly sliced house-made pickles, with balanced acidity and sweetness, nice as a light side.

Why The European serves pizza with tongs instead of a pizza server
The pizza, with jambon and poached egg arranged like a flower, was gorgeous. Unusually, they gave us tongs instead of a pizza server, but as we ate, it turned out to be really convenient — no toppings fell off, and it was easy to pick up a slice in one go!!! Kudos for the tongs, haha.

How does the Bolognese lasagna taste?
The lasagna arrived drizzled generously with green oil, contrasting eye-catchingly with the red tomato sauce. My husband, trying lasagna for the first time, had high expectations.

Putting both dishes in one photo, they matched better than expected — I think we picked our menu well again this time, haha.

The lasagna sheets were chewy, giving an unusual feeling like eating a pizza-flavored mandu (dumpling). My husband asked if lasagna is normally supposed to taste like mandu, but since this was different from the first lasagna I ever tried, I couldn't say for sure either — so we decided to visit a third lasagna place together to compare.

The bursts of tomato chunks were refreshing, and the chewy ground meat combined with the savory, tangy tomato sauce and fragrant oil to create great flavor. My husband, despite the oiliness of the sauce, said it wasn't greasy at all and kept scooping it up with his spoon!!!

Jambon truffle fungi pizza: bursting the poached egg
They broke the beautifully placed poached egg with a knife and spread it evenly across the pizza,

then neatly transferred a slice onto a plate using the tongs. The pink jambon looked so appetizing.

The pizza was really loaded with toppings. The truffle aroma hit strongly, and the texture of the various mushrooms was great. The jambon wasn't salty at all — savory and clean, pairing well with the mushrooms. Eaten together with the poached egg, it had a smooth, nutty coating feeling in the mouth that I loved.

The pizza crust was chewy and savory-salty, such a special treat that I even ate the crust ends. Dipping it in the lasagna sauce was fresh and delicious — I scraped that sauce clean. If you're looking for a great pizza spot with atmosphere for a date or group gathering, I recommend The European Haenggung Main Branch!!!
