My family had brought home the original flavor from Dalgom's (닭강정 달곰's) about twice before. We had enjoyed it then, so this time I stopped by the shop at Uijeongbu Jeil Market myself and chose some different flavors.

Where is it in Jeil Market, and is parking available?

The shop is near the old chicken alley inside Jeil Market. I was able to find it without going far into the market. The hours posted during my visit were 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and it was closed on Mondays. They also said they provide parking coupons if you park at Jeil Market's parking lot.

Can you eat at the shop?

The exterior gave me a neat impression. It felt especially well-organized among the restaurants I have visited recently.

Once I went inside, I could see the kitchen right away, almost like an open kitchen. The part of the kitchen I could see was kept clean.

There was no separate space to eat inside. Instead, there was a waiting area for takeout, so I sat while I waited. From there, I could also watch them toss the chicken in sauce.

What are the prices and flavor options for dakgangjeong?

The menu listed one and a half chickens at ₩24,000. I could choose up to three flavors, so I ordered fried, garlic soy, and cheese mustard dakgangjeong (sweet crispy fried chicken). Considering the portion and range of flavor choices, I thought the price was reasonable.

The owner was kind, and we had a comfortable conversation while I waited. After picking up my order, I took it home and opened it with my family.

What do the fried, garlic soy, and cheese mustard flavors taste like?

Did the fried chicken stay crisp after takeout?

The fried chicken still had a crisp texture when I ate it at home. It had a savory flavor from the oil, and I did not notice any chicken smell. The outside was crisp, while the inside was moist and pleasantly chewy.

Which flavor did I like most of the three?

The garlic soy was my favorite. I expected it to be similar to the soy sauce chicken I usually eat, but it tasted more distinctive than I expected. Its sweet and salty flavor kept drawing me back.

Was the cheese mustard flavor too rich?

I was curious about cheese mustard because it was my first time having that combination with dakgangjeong. It was smooth and creamy, with a savory, thick cheese flavor. The mustard balanced the richness well, and the family members I ate with liked this flavor the most.

My family and I had different favorite flavors, so I especially liked being able to choose all three together. You cannot eat at the shop, but I was satisfied with taking home several flavors to share with my family.
