I heard there was a great BBQ spot in Sinnonhyeon, so I checked it out. Gangnam is packed with BBQ restaurants, but this one had a clean atmosphere and worked well as a date spot, so let me introduce it :)
Where is Sansol Sinnonhyeon and how do you get there?
Sansol Sinnonhyeon is located on the 1st floor at 15 Gangnam-daero 112-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

It's about a 2-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station, so it was really easy to find. It'd be great for after work or as a meeting spot.

Naver reservations are available and parking is possible too, so it's worth checking before you go.

Even from outside, it says 'chaff-smoked traditional grilling,' which made me curious how it would taste. There's also a separate lunch special~!!

Oh, and if you leave a review here you get corkage-free, so it looked like a good option for anyone who wants to bring wine or other drinks to enjoy with the meat.

Inside Sansol Sinnonhyeon: lighting, partitions and seating
The inside of Sansol Sinnonhyeon had a slightly different vibe from your typical BBQ place. The soft lighting and clean, sophisticated interior made it feel less chaotic than most grill spots, and it even had a bit of a Jeju folk-village feel, which was fun haha. With mostly 4-person tables and partitions, it felt private, and the dim lighting gave it an overall upscale feel. It seemed good for dates as well as group dinners.

With so many well-known people having visited, it must really be a legit spot!!

I also noticed the aging meat displayed inside the restaurant. Being able to see the meat aging in person raised my anticipation even before eating, and it definitely gave the feeling of a dedicated aged-meat specialist.
Does the smoke smell stick to your clothes? Sansol's downdraft system
Another thing I liked was the downdraft ventilation system! Instead of a hood hanging over the table, it pulls smoke and smell down from below, so the view stayed clear and dining felt much more comfortable throughout the meal. Smell sticking to your clothes after a BBQ meal is something that always bugs me a little, but this time the smell didn't linger much afterward, which made it feel less risky to visit before a date.

What we ordered: one serving of pork neck and one of jin flower short rib
Here's the menu~! Being an aged-meat specialist, the menu was quite varied, and we ordered one serving of pork neck and one serving of flower short rib.

Even before the meat arrived, a wide variety of banchan (side dishes) was set out — a scallion-based meat sauce, premium salt, ssamjang (dipping sauce), herring roe, and wasabi were all prepared, so you could enjoy the meat in different combinations depending on your taste. Aged kimchi, yuzu-scented julienned radish, pickles, and kimchi all came out too, and they went great with the meat.

The aged flower pork neck and flower short rib came out neatly arranged on one plate. The color and thickness of the meat looked appetizing right away, and mushrooms and zucchini came alongside.

Staff grill the meat for you on a cast-iron plate
Sansol Sinnonhyeon uses a specially made cast-iron grill plate, which apparently retains heat well and locks in the juices while cooking. But best of all, staff grill the meat for you directly!!! At BBQ restaurants, conversation often stalls while everyone's busy grilling, but here we just got to sit back and eat, which was great~~!

Aged pork neck vs jin flower short rib: how they taste
The aged pork neck was crisp on the outside and moist inside, with really good juiciness, and a firm, chewy texture. It tasted great with just a dip of salt, but personally I liked it best paired with herring roe and scallion sauce~~!!

The flower short rib was more moist and juicy than I expected. Topping it with a bit of wasabi cut through the richness and made the meat taste cleaner. The textures of the two cuts were clearly different, which made it fun to try each one.

The flower short rib especially had a nutty flavor that came through more the more you chewed it, and it was fun comparing all three cuts.

The doenjang stew and our verdict on Sansol Sinnonhyeon
The doenjang stew (soybean paste soup) was hearty too, and I ended up finishing my whole bowl of rice~! Overall, Sansol Sinnonhyeon impressed me not just with the taste of the meat but with the atmosphere and convenience too. Staff grilling for you makes for a relaxed meal, and the downdraft ventilation system meant less worry about smelling like grilled meat afterward.

It's about a 2-minute walk from Sinnonhyeon Station so access is great, and with parking and reservations available too, it seems like a solid choice whether you're looking for a date spot, a gathering, or a group dinner :)
