Air-conditioned patio Korean BBQ in Apgujeong Rodeo: Yeontan Gongjang

~Blissful holiday~ I don't usually come to Apgujeong Rodeo unless I'm shopping or checking out a pop-up. But this day I got off work crazy early right before the holiday started, haha. I wanted to grab a quick bite before heading home, so I looked up restaurants around Apro and found this place.

In weather like this you have to enjoy an open-air patio, and the food was perfect too — here's my review of Yeontan Gongjang (연탄공장) in Apgujeong Rodeo.

I got there around 4-5pm after leaving work early. I figured it'd be quiet at such an awkward hour, but seeing quite a few tables already occupied that early got me even more excited.

The first thing that caught my eye when I arrived was the outdoor patio vibe! It was a bit of a surprise to find a BBQ joint like this right in the middle of Apgujeong.

I always thought of Apro as full of fancy restaurants, cafés and pop-ups, but this place has a completely different atmosphere.

An outdoor patio with air conditioning — how does that work?

Surprisingly, the outdoor patio at Yeontan Gongjang actually has air conditioning. You can't resist that patio feeling in weather like this, right? It's like a patio but not really a patio — a comfortable setup where you don't sweat and can enjoy it cool, which made me think it'd also be perfect for a date.

🔥 Yeontan Gongjang's signature dish, and what we ordered that day:

• Pork king ribs (₩21,000 x3)
• Bibim naengmyeon (spicy cold noodles) (₩9,000)
• Frozen sikhye (rice punch) (₩7,000)

Yeontan Gongjang is actually introduced as a place that sells not just pork ribs but various charcoal-grilled menu items like beef short rib meat, pork belly, pork shoulder, and pork jowl. But pork ribs are the most talked-about item. So there was no need to think twice — went straight for the pork ribs, haha.

Then the charcoal fire arrived right at the table... already delicious! Meat really has to be grilled over charcoal to taste right, haha.

Pork ribs especially can burn quickly because of the marinade if you're not careful, so whoever's grilling has to stay on top of it constantly. The charcoal heat was strong that day too, so the friend grilling really worked hard flipping the meat around. The rest of us just had to eat hard!

How the pork ribs taste seared fast over high heat

The moment the meat hit the grill, that delicious smell shot up right away.

Watching the pork ribs cook over the charcoal fire really got the saliva going. With that distinct charcoal smoky flavor added in, it's a completely different feeling from grilling pork ribs at home.

Cutting off a piece and taking a bite, the sweet-salty marinade combined with the charcoal smokiness had me picking up piece after piece without even touching rice.

So that day we just went hard on the pork ribs and nothing else.

Finishing with bibim naengmyeon and frozen iced sikhye

🍜 And it's basically a crime not to order naengmyeon (cold noodles) when eating pork ribs, haha.

So of course we ordered bibim naengmyeon without a second thought. A bite of meat, a bite of naengmyeon... then another bite of meat...

After eating the sweet pork ribs, a bite of the spicy cold noodles felt like it cleaned everything out! We scraped the bibim naengmyeon bowl completely clean before leaving.

They even had frozen sikhye, which I really love!

Drinking the cool, sweet sikhye after the meat left my mouth feeling so refreshed. It was a meal full of all my favorite things, so I was in such a good mood the whole time eating, honestly.

Is Yeontan Gongjang good for a work dinner or a date in Apgujeong Rodeo?

💕 Yeontan Gongjang doesn't have an overly formal atmosphere — it's a comfortable place to chat, so it's great to visit with friends, and if you want something a bit different from the usual predictable date restaurant, a place like this could be a good option.

It's a good spot for a casual meat dinner after work, and the atmosphere also suits a group gathering for drinks. So if you're looking for a pork rib restaurant for a work dinner in Apgujeong Rodeo, this could be worth keeping in mind.

Afterward, to help digest, we walked all the way to the nearby Han River, took a stroll, rode bikes, and even hopped on the Han River water bus (whoa) before heading home.
