Hongdae Pyeongyang naengmyeon lunch 7 minutes from the station: Anok

In short

Anok is a hanok (traditional Korean house) restaurant down an alley about a 7-minute walk from Hongik University Station in Mapo, Seoul. Over lunch with her parents, the writer ordered Pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), gomtang (clear beef bone soup) and braised pork tail: the broth was mild and clean rather than salty, and the meat was tender with no gamy smell. With wide spacing between tables that makes conversation easy, Anok is a comfortable choice for a meal with older family members.

I was trying to figure out where to take my parents for lunch when I stumbled on a genuinely great spot. Cutting through the busy Hongdae streets and stepping in, I found myself at a place called Anok — full of quiet, old-house charm. My parents love clean, well-made Korean food, so I figured it'd suit them perfectly. It's already famous as one of Hongdae's go-to spots for Pyeongyang naengmyeon (cold buckwheat noodles), so I had high hopes going in. For anyone else who wants a little breather from a busy schedule, here's my honest review!!

Where is Anok, and what is the hanok like? A 7-minute walk from Hongik University Station

It was about a 7-minute walk from Hongik University Station, hidden down an alley — felt like tracking down a secret hideout. Anok keeps its hanok (traditional Korean house) interior fully intact, and it's genuinely stylish. The moment I found it, with the hanok in view and the weather so nice, the sunlight made me feel calm and at peace right away. Inside, it's clean and sleek, and the tables are spaced generously — perfect for talking with my parents. Even the bathroom was kept spotless, which put me even more at ease. My parents loved the calm atmosphere from the moment we walked in, and I gave myself a pat on the back for picking this place haha.

On top of that, the staff were so kind and attentive that, combined with the atmosphere, it turned into a really warm afternoon!

How do Anok's Pyeongyang naengmyeon and gomtang taste? Mild, clear broth

Once we sat down, the dishes we ordered arrived and grabbed my attention with their visuals alone. Anok's Pyeongyang naengmyeon has a gorgeously clear broth, piled generously with toppings. One bite in, it was mild and deep — not sharp at all — and it just kept pulling me back for more. The gomtang (clear beef bone soup) broth was so clear it felt like it cleared out my insides. The meat was cut into big chunks and so tender that I polished off a full bowl of rice with it. No gamy smell whatsoever, so even people who usually skip naengmyeon could enjoy this one comfortably!

What is the braised pork tail like? A perfect match with gomtang

And then there's Anok's pork tail jjim (braised pork tail) — a real standout. It's an unusual cut so I was a little wary at first, but the moment I took a bite, I was shocked at how it just melted in my mouth. Anok's own seasoning was soaked right into the meat, and I couldn't put my chopsticks down. Paired with the clear soup dishes, the combination was fantastic. If you're looking for a good gukbap (soup-and-rice) spot in Hongdae, I'd wholeheartedly recommend this pairing! The pork tail jjim has a bold, punchy flavor, so it went perfectly with the mild gomtang. My parents said it was such a hearty, satisfying meal, and that made me really happy haha.

Is Anok a good place to take your parents for lunch?

Anok doesn't miss on anything — from the interior to the food — so I'm already planning to come back with my family. If you want a quiet place to catch up with your parents over well-made food, definitely give this spot a visit~!!

From the interior to the taste of the food, nothing was lacking, so I'm already thinking about coming back with my family next time. If you want to sit and talk quietly with your parents over clean, well-made food, this place is well worth a visit. The weather's turning cool now, and a bowl of warm broth or a bowl of chilled naengmyeon in a space this atmospheric would really feel healing. There can be a wait, so I'd recommend visiting with some extra time built in. I'm already looking forward to trying a different menu item next time I go. Why not make a happy memory over a good meal with someone special on a special day?
