Gomtang lunch sets at Hagane Naju Gomtang, a Hwaseong restaurant

These days, when I crave something hearty and warm, gomtang (clear beef bone soup) is the first thing that comes to mind! This time I went for lunch with a coworker to Hagane Naju Gomtang Hwaseong Jangan branch.

Visiting Hagane Naju Gomtang in Hwaseong: parking and wait times

Hagane Naju Gomtang Hwaseong Jangan branch is easy to park at, and if you avoid the lunch peak, you can eat without waiting. Parking is free right in front of the store, so you can just pull in.

If you show up right at lunchtime the wait gets long, so I'd recommend going a bit early or avoiding the 12pm peak.

I was looking for somewhere to eat around Jangan-myeon and ended up here — apparently it's quite popular with the office workers nearby too.

Sure enough, when lunchtime hit, plenty of people came in for lunch, giving it that real office-worker-favorite feel.

What is the dining room like inside?

The moment I walked into Hagane Naju Gomtang Jangan branch, I was impressed — the interior was cleaner and prettier than I expected.

When you hear "gomtang restaurant," you tend to picture an old-fashioned kind of place, but Hagane Naju Gomtang has a clean, comfortable overall atmosphere — I thought it'd even work for a family meal out ,,,^^

Ordering the gomtang + suyuk set and gomtang + mandu set

At Hagane Naju Gomtang, we ordered a gomtang and suyuk set, and a gomtang and mandu set.

The moment the gomtang arrived, the first thing that caught my eye was the generous amount of meat!

There was so much meat packed into the gomtang that it felt way more filling than a regular soup-and-rice bowl. There was also a big pile of scallions on top, which made it look really appetizing, and the subtle scallion aroma blended into the broth made it even tastier.

How is the broth, and what side dishes come with it?

What I liked best was, of course, the broth! Ahh, clear gomtang loaded with black pepper ㅠㅠ — totally my style. It wasn't sharply salty or overpowering; the more spoonfuls I had, the deeper the flavor felt, and I couldn't stop going back for more.

The side dishes were so fresh and tasty too — the kimchi and kkakdugi had no sourness at all, just crisp and super fresh and delicious!

At first I thought, "gomtang is gomtang, they're all pretty much the same," but once I actually tried it, I fell for how deep the broth flavor was!

With all that meat piled in, eating it together with rice was really filling, and the flavor kept us scraping the bowl clean, broth and all.

Suyuk and mandu at a gomtang restaurant

We also enjoyed the suyuk (boiled pork) and mandu (dumplings) that came with the sets. Gomtang alone is already filling enough, but adding suyuk and mandu on top made it feel like a proper, full lunch.

Especially if you're visiting with a group, I think it'd be better to order the set menus and share rather than everyone ordering plain gomtang separately. We each ordered a different set this time and shared! Best choice >_<

My coworker who came with me tried it and said "this is so good," which made me weirdly proud haha. It wasn't just me enjoying it — she was satisfied too, which made it an even happier lunch.

Can you bring kids to Hagane Naju Gomtang?

If you're looking for a hearty meal in Jangan-myeon, after trying this place I get why it's so popular with the office workers around here.

They have baby chairs at the restaurant, so you can bring little ones along and still eat comfortably ^^

Is Hagane Naju Gomtang worth it for lunch in Hwaseong?

Generous meat, a big pile of scallions, and deep, rich broth — overall, this was a gomtang that made for a hearty, satisfying meal. What I liked most was that beyond the food being tasty, the clean, pretty interior meant it lacked that rough, old-fashioned feel typical of gomtang places! Return-visit intention: 100000%.

This time I came for lunch with my coworker, but it was so good that I'd love to come back with my husband next time! If you're looking for a good gomtang spot in Hwaseong, or a hearty lunch place in Jangan-myeon, it's worth a visit~ haha, it really lived up to the reviews!
