My sibling had just come back from the US after a long time, so we decided to do a family dinner in Dongtan. Our family loves meat, so naturally we went looking for a BBQ place. Since my mom isn't a big fan of pork, we picked somewhere we could eat both beef and pork together. That place was Grill the Terrace Dongtan, a well-known spot near Dongtan's North Plaza.

Grill the Terrace is a charcoal BBQ restaurant near Dongtan's North Plaza. True to its name, it has a terrace space, and the moment you walk in, the greenery gives it a vibe that doesn't even feel like a BBQ place haha. Plants everywhere gave it this greenery feel, almost like an urban campsite.

The weather was quite cool the day I visited, so we ate on the outdoor terrace.

Eating on the terrace that day was honestly so romantic. Grilling meat over charcoal while catching a cool breeze felt totally different from a regular BBQ place. If you visit on a nice day, you might remember it as one of the best terrace restaurants in Dongtan. The inside is also really spacious, so it doesn't feel cramped at all—much more relaxed.

Starting with fresh unmarinated beef short ribs

After some thought, we decided to grease the grill first with fresh unmarinated beef short ribs (saengso-galbi), then finish with marinated pork ribs. Beef short ribs grilled over charcoal can't not be delicious, right?? Am I wrong!!

With that subtle charcoal aroma soaked in, the meat was savory and clean-tasting, really delicious!! On top of that, my family can be a bit picky about meat quality, and that day everyone was satisfied with the beef ribs!!

and just as good eaten on its own, all golden and nicely charred from the charcoal.

After enjoying the beef, we moved on to round two with marinated pork ribs. The marinade soaked in nicely while the meat still stayed juicy—also really delicious.

What I especially liked was that the rib bones came attached! My sibling saw it and said, now this is real galbi! haha. These days some places marinate other cuts like neck meat and sell them as galbi, so having the actual rib bone attached made it feel like the genuine article, which I liked even more.

Doenjang jjigae and stone-plate kkakdugi fried rice to finish

It felt like a waste to stop at just meat, so we ordered doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), stone-plate kkakdugi (radish kimchi) fried rice, and mul naengmyeon (cold noodle soup) for dessert haha. The doenjang jjigae went well with the meat, and paired with rice it made for a satisfying meal.

My dad especially loved the stone-plate kkakdugi fried rice! When you're eating charcoal BBQ, it's sometimes disappointing when a place doesn't have a fried rice option even though you're craving one—so it was great that this place had its own dedicated kkakdugi fried rice menu.

We ended with mul naengmyeon to cleanse the palate. After eating our fill of charcoal-grilled meat, the cool noodles made for a refreshingly clean finish! From beef to marinated pork ribs to doenjang jjigae and fried rice, it was quite the feast that day haha.

Maybe because it was a family dinner with my sibling back from the US after so long, the meal felt even more enjoyable that day :) More than anything, if you're looking for a good beef restaurant in Dongtan that also serves pork, this place gives you a wider range of menu options, which makes it a great pick for family visits!
