Today I visited a sushi restaurant in Hayang, Gyeongsan called Sonsi Sushi Hayang branch. I'd been looking for a proper sushi spot near Hayang Station and finally made it here. I ended up enjoying a full course — a variety of sushi topped with fresh sashimi, ankimo futomaki (fat-liver hand roll) piled high with rich ankimo, a fresh sashimi rice bowl, hot udon, and crispy shrimp tempura.

The lunch special set is really well put together, and there's a wide range of choices from single sushi pieces to futomaki, rice bowls, and tempura!

They're also running a receipt review gacha event with no losing draws.
What comes with the set before the sushi
Once seated, we were given cool, nutty barley tea, and every table had jujube sushi soy sauce ready. It's not ordinary soy sauce but a special house-made blend, and it really seemed to bring out the sushi's flavor even more!
The premium 12-piece value set, 33,200 won
The dishes started coming out one by one until the table was completely full — colorful and genuinely generous in portion. With sushi, the sashimi rice bowl, ankimo futomaki, udon, and shrimp tempura all covering the table, it was impossible not to smile just looking at it.
The sushi lineup was really flashy and well-stocked! Raw salmon, seared salmon, aged flatfish, eel, soy-marinated shrimp, yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) sushi, octopus wasabi — the premium toppings were packed in, and it was fun picking through them all.

The sashimi was thick and fresh, giving a really nice chew, and the pieces with a whiff of char or a savory house sauce added a punch here and there so I never got tired of it. The egg sushi literally melted in my mouth.
If you like sushi, I highly recommend the 'premium' upgrade option!

Sonsi ankimo futomaki, 12,000 won
As befits their signature menu since 2026, the look alone grabs your eye! The futomaki comes piled with a generous amount of ankimo (monkfish liver), and the rich ankimo with a hint of char hit hard with flavor from the very first bite!
The combination of soft egg and crunchy ingredients nailed the texture, and it was all luxurious savoriness with no fishy taste at all.

The udon that comes with the set
This is the udon that comes with the set, and the portion is generous too! The noodles are springy and chewy with a good bite, and the warm, deep broth pairs really well with the sushi.

Sashimi rice bowl with homemade apple chogochujang
This is a sashimi rice bowl included in the set, piled high with fresh sashimi and vegetables in the bowl!
Drizzle on the house-made apple vinegar sauce and sesame oil to taste, and a sweet-tangy, nutty aroma fills your mouth!
The sashimi had a nice big bite and a pop of texture, and the savory apple vinegar sauce cut through it cleanly, making it a great-value treat.

Shrimp tempura from the set
Freshly fried and crispy shrimp tempura! The batter is thin and crunchy, and the shrimp meat inside is plump and packed in, so the savoriness spread the moment I bit in. Dipping it generously into the thick, sweet-and-spicy house sauce that came with it was a genuinely great combination!
Restrooms and the amenity box
The restrooms are separated by gender and well kept! There's an amenity box for customers on one side of the store, thoughtfully stocked with disposable mouthwash, hair ties, floss, hand cream, and even candy!
I was touched by the owner's thoughtful attention to detail, making sure customers could tidy up neatly after their meal before heading out.
Is Sonsi Sushi Hayang branch worth it for families?
Sonsi Sushi is really affordable and the set menu composition is excellent too! Thick, fresh sushi is a given, and it's a place that really delivers on value. If you want to enjoy a delicious sushi set at a generous, honest price, I highly recommend it!
