Mullae-dong has been getting hot lately, right? I've lived in this neighborhood for over 10 years, and it's honestly kind of bewildering to watch it become a hot spot in just the past few years. You know how it is — even if a famous place or a good restaurant is right in your own neighborhood, you never quite get around to going. But friends around me kept recommending Jojo Mullae Branch as a spot that's a treat for both the eyes and the mouth, perfect for a Mullae date — so I finally went!!

Conclusion: both my eyes and my mouth had a great time ^^

Mullae Art Village already has tons of great restaurants and quirky spots, but Jojo Mullae Branch stands out with its flashy cooking show(?) and authentic Japanese dishes you'd think you could only get locally — monjayaki, yakisoba, okonomiyaki, and more!

Where Jojo Mullae Branch is and where to park

Jojo Mullae Branch, a solid pick for a Mullae date, isn't far from Mullae Station at all, so it's super easy to find. The Art Village has so many restaurants, cafés, metalworking shops, and bakeries worth stopping by that you'll barely notice you've arrived at Jojo while wandering around after getting off at Mullae Station!

Arriving for the 11:30 opening at Jojo Mullae Branch

First table of the day, with no wait

Jojo Mullae Branch opens at 11:30, and I got there right at opening to snag the very first seat and skip the wait, haha. Sure enough, before I'd even finished eating, that huge space started filling up fast! I'd only heard about this place, but apparently it's run by the teppan master from Culinary Class Wars 2? That got my expectations even higher going in. Haha.

You order right from the table like in the photo, with pictures and descriptions clearly laid out, so ordering was a breeze. Lots of events too, like receipt reviews and coupons!

Every basic table setting comes with a built-in griddle. I expected the space to be cramped since it's in Mullae Art Village, but it was actually spacious, with generous gaps between tables — plenty of room to chat away without bothering the table next to you. The photo right above shows the adorable little timer! The staff time their tableside cooking performances to this timer.

What is on the menu at Jojo Mullae Branch

There's a wide range of dishes — okonomiyaki, yakisoba, monjayaki, and more — available both à la carte and as sets, so you can pick whatever suits you. We mostly ordered for lunch, but it seems like it'd be a great vibe for dinner too, pairing dishes with draft beer or highballs as anju (drinking snacks).

What comes in the signature set for 3 (52,000 won)

As expected, picking from that huge menu was so hard... because I wanted to try everything, haha. Since there were three of us, we went with the signature set for 3 (₩52,000), which lets you sample a bit of everything.

I couldn't wait to see how it would actually turn out...

Waterfall potato at Jojo Mullae Branch

The signature set for 3 includes Jojo okonomiyaki (with modan-myeon noodles), double karai yakisoba, donpeyaki, and waterfall potato. First up, waterfall potato! Just look at how cute this thing looks, haha. The pure white mashed potato is wonderfully fluffy and savory, and when you poke the soft-boiled egg on top, out spills a rich, pale yolk. Passed the visual test easily, and it was such a novel dish I'd never seen before,

It wobbles and jiggles~ makes you swallow before you even take a bite, haha. Both fun to look at and fun to eat! The bottom layer had a crunchy texture — I think it was garlic or some kind of flake, but I'm not sure exactly what it was... if anyone knows, comment below! ^^

Karai yakisoba, doubled

Whoa... can you see the color on those noodles below? Glossy and glistening all over. The sweet-savory special sauce, mixed with chunky shrimp, meat, and a variety of vegetables throughout, worked together so well. Honestly, I was worried Japanese food portions might be a bit small, but the yakisoba alone as a single dish was really filling!

Donpeyaki (pork and egg omelette)

Think of donpeyaki as a Japanese-style egg roll. The savory, fluffy egg roll drizzled with that sauce hit a perfect balance of sweet, salty, and rich flavor!

And finally, the Jojo okonomiyaki

While the other dishes came out first and we happily ate away, the staff kept busily moving back and forth, cooking on the griddle. And that was — Jojo's signature okonomiyaki! Fresh ingredients sizzled away on the teppan, and whenever that little timer I mentioned earlier went off, they'd flip and stir and add ingredients right on cue, haha.

Eating the yakisoba and other dishes served earlier while watching this flashy performance was such a treat. Because... waiting around with nothing to eat is way too hard, lol.

Wow... look at that flashy skill! Honestly, I had no idea they'd put on a performance like that when I went — which made it even more fun, and it turned into a totally different kind of experience, chatting with my friends and then getting pulled back into watching whenever the cooking started up again.

Is Jojo Mullae Branch worth a trip to Mullae?

I went in just thinking of it as another restaurant in Mullae Art Village, but the food was guaranteed to be good — plus a flashy cooking performance right in front of me!! Truly a place where both the eyes and the mouth get to enjoy themselves at Jojo Mullae. If you're looking for something special and different to try with friends, a partner, or family, I'd recommend Jojo Mullae Branch without hesitation! There are still other menu items I haven't tried yet from that huge lineup... planning to go back soon and take them on. Haha.
