Seoul Station underground mall gyukatsu and shrimp curry: Ichigyu
In short
Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch is a gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) restaurant in the Seoul Station underground mall in Jung-gu, Seoul. The writer ordered the gyukatsu (sirloin) set plus a Japanese curry topped with fried king shrimp and a fried egg, searing the sirloin on a personal tabletop grill with Isigny butter before dipping it in itame sauce, salt and chili sauce. Salad and side dishes come with free refills, and Ichigyu's location makes it a filling meal right before a train.

Today I'm bringing you a review of Ichigyu Seoul Station Branch, an authentic Japanese restaurant near Seoul Station that nails both taste and atmosphere. If you're looking for a clean, satisfying meal before catching a train or somewhere in the area, I'd definitely recommend this place.

Where Ichigyu Seoul Station is and when it opens
98 Huam-ro, B1 B116, Jung-gu, Seoul, South Korea / Daily 11:00–21:30 / Parking available (paid)

There's a waitlist kiosk out front, so it looks like this place gets busy pretty often. Step inside and you're greeted with that clean, polished atmosphere typical of a Japanese restaurant.
What the restaurant feels like inside

The lighting is cozy, making it perfect for a date with your partner, but just as good for travelers passing through Seoul Station or office workers grabbing lunch or dinner!
What's on the menu

Besides gyukatsu, Ichigyu also has steak don, hamburg omurice, yakisoba Napolitan, and other appealing options, so there's plenty to choose from depending on what you're craving.
The gyukatsu (sirloin) set

The dish I was most looking forward to: the gyukatsu (sirloin) set! The savory sirloin comes fried crispy on the outside, and from the moist, reddish-pink cross-section alone, the visual was perfect.

The basic side dishes are a fresh cabbage salad drizzled with a savory dressing and a deep-flavored miso soup with fried tofu.
How to eat gyukatsu at Ichigyu

They grill the gyukatsu to your liking on a personal charcoal stove with a light coat of Isigny butter.

Try dipping it in Ichigyu's special itame sauce, which has notes of garlic and tanginess.

Add a bit of salt or chili sauce and you can enjoy every last bite without it ever feeling greasy. The savory richness of the butter paired with the juicy sirloin was truly excellent.
Japanese curry with fried king shrimp

The other dish, the Japanese curry, comes generously topped with two large fried king shrimp and a fried egg.

Pairing the crispy fried king shrimp with the deep, rich curry sauce sprinkled with garlic chips gave it great texture along with deep flavor.

The warm soy-based soup and cabbage salad that came alongside rounded out a perfect meal. The salad and side dishes are refillable too!

With such great accessibility to Seoul Station, if you're after a hearty, well-made Japanese meal, this is definitely worth a visit! The taste, service, and overall experience were all satisfying — I'll be back 😊
