Seomyeon pizza restaurant with no break time, 5pm dinner: Pickles

Around 4:30pm I searched for good restaurants in Seomyeon to grab an early dinner, but sadly every single one had a break time. While looking for a Jeonpo restaurant without a break time, I found this Jeonpo pizza place. From the emotional interior to the soft lighting and music, the vibe was great too — a good Seomyeon restaurant for a date, Pickles.

Inside Pickles, and how long the walk is from Jeonpo Station

Pickles is easy to reach — about 164m from Jeonpo Station Exit 7. If you're coming from Seomyeon Station, Exits 6 and 2 will get you there quickly. For parking, you can use the nearby Jeonpo Station lot, Duwon lot, or Taeyang Private lot.

The exterior already has a distinctive look, but stepping inside it was even more classic and moody. The staff in white working in the open kitchen looked so cool blending in with the lighting.

We visited around 5pm on a weekday and there were no open seats, so we waited about 5 minutes before getting in. As a well-known Seomyeon restaurant, there can be a wait during lunch or dinner hours, but since it's a Catch Table waitlist, you can put your name down and go explore Jeonpo while you wait.

The lush green plant view through the big windows is pretty and full of atmosphere. The white walls and wood-toned tables and fabric sofas add to the mood, and with the soft lighting, it's a great Seomyeon restaurant for a date.

There's also a cozy table in the very back. Lighting, framed art, and plants throughout raise the interior's vibe.

At the self-serve bar in the middle of the restaurant, pickles, water, and tissues are set out. Use them freely as needed.

The Pickles menu: jambon-beurre, taco and beef cheeseburger pizza

As a proper Jeonpo pizza restaurant, Pickles has a wide range of pizzas, and the jambon-beurre, taco, and beef cheeseburger pizzas caught my eye since you don't see them often elsewhere. Beyond pizza, they also have Western dishes like lasagna, puttanesca, and bacon cream pasta, which pair well together. There are set menus combining pizza and pasta too, so you can eat a hearty meal.

Side menu items include romaine salad and chicken steak, which go well with pizza or pasta. There's also a Naver receipt review event where you can get a free drink.

Honest review of the Pickles half-and-half pizza set and chicken steak

A staff member came right to our table to take the order in a thoughtful way. As soon as we finished ordering, they brought out the basic setup — pickles, salt, and hot sauce.

After much deliberation, we ordered a half-and-half pizza and pasta set plus a chicken steak as a side. It was busy enough on a weekday at 5pm to require a wait — the chicken steak and pasta took about 15 minutes to come out, and the pizza took about 5 more minutes.

Taco pizza, half of the 25,000-won half-and-half

After going back and forth, we chose taco and beef cheeseburger for our half-and-half pizza. It comes out about 11 inches in size, cut into 6 slices, priced at ₩25,000, with a cheese crust upgrade available for an extra ₩4,000.

We both love tacos and eat them often, so a taco pizza had us curious. True to its name, it's topped with a well-balanced mix of taco ingredients — jalapeños, nacho chips, corn, onion, beef, and pork.

The dough itself isn't too heavy, which keeps that tortilla-like taco feel. The sour cream sauce on top of the tomato base gives it a kick, making it refreshing and packed with savory flavor.

How does the beef cheeseburger pizza taste?

Burgers are one of our soul foods, so we ordered the beef cheeseburger pizza too. True to a pizza modeled after a New York-style beef cheeseburger, it's piled high with savory cheese.

A sweet bulgogi-like sauce and the meaty flavor are cleanly balanced by the romaine. The gooey cheddar cheese scattered throughout and the crunchy onion work together nicely.

Honestly, if you closed your eyes, it would taste like a beef cheeseburger from a proper burger shop. The savory, soft cheese flavor is rich yet bold.

Since it's built on a sweet sauce base, a little hot sauce drizzled on top tastes great too. The dough itself is light and chewy, which made me want to try the jambon-beurre pizza next.

Why you dip the Pickles pizza crust in salt

Unusually, they tell you to dip the pizza crust in salt. I was curious how that would work, and wow, it goes surprisingly well. Slightly salty with a clean bready flavor and good texture, I ended up enjoying even the crust.

The pickles at Pickles are homemade dill pickles. With the dill herb, they don't have that artificially sweet-and-sour taste of factory pickles — instead a fresh tang that paired even better with the cheese-heavy pizza.

Puttanesca pasta, 16,000 won

For pasta we ordered the puttanesca, an anchovy oil pasta. It costs ₩16,000 and comes out beautifully plated in a white bowl.

The puttanesca pasta includes anchovy, olives, cherry tomatoes, pistachio, celery, and capers. The salty olives and capers combine with the fresh tomato flavor for a layered taste.

The distinctively salty, deep umami of the anchovy adds richness to the pasta. The noodles have a springy texture too, cooked well in a way that should please most palates.

What comes with the 9,000-won chicken steak?

We added a chicken steak as a side to get some extra protein. For just ₩9,000, it comes with 2 pieces of chicken, roasted baby potatoes, and coleslaw.

Just watching how smoothly the knife cuts through gives you a sense of the texture. It's tender chicken thigh meat with absolutely no dryness.

The owner apparently created this dish to recreate the taste and feeling of chicken they had while traveling in Harlem, New York. The chicken has a slight smoky char and a curry-like spice note, so it's completely free of greasiness and tastes clean.

Piling the fresh coleslaw on top for a bite works great. Western food can sometimes fall short on protein, but adding the chicken steak solves that.

The mild potatoes go well alongside too. At ₩9,000, the portion and taste are both great value.

Is Pickles worth it for an early Seomyeon dinner?

Pickles is a great Seomyeon date restaurant with clean, tasteful interior, delicious food, and good service from the staff. You can enjoy pizza, pasta, and chicken steak, and with plenty of distinctive menu items, it's a solid choice for a Seomyeon lunch or a Jeonpo date, if you're looking for a Jeonpo Western restaurant.

With no break time, you can drop by anytime between 11am and 9pm, and takeout is available too — worth a visit if you're looking for a good Jeonpo restaurant or Jeonpo Western food. Next time I'll have to try Pickles' signature jambon-beurre pizza and lasagna.
