Jongak Station sushi lunch for three sharing kaisendon: Choe Uyeong

The weather's been so nice lately that we decided to all meet up around Jongak and Gwanghwamun for something good to eat! While looking for a proper Gwanghwamun sushi spot, I found Choe Uyeong Sushiya, a Jongak Station sushi restaurant with a solid menu lineup and great reviews — so we went straight there.

How to get to Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch from Jongak Station

Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch is a 3-minute walk from Exit 1 of Jongak Station. It's located in the basement of a building, so here's a tip: use the Baskin Robbins store as your landmark. With your back to Baskin Robbins, go a little further to the right and you'll see an elevator. Take it down to B1, then turn the corner on the right and you'll see the entrance to Choe Uyeong Sushiya.

There's a full menu board set up prominently near the storefront and entrance. Thanks to that, you can browse the menu options, portions, and price range before even stepping inside — nice for first-time walk-ins who want to check the menu without any pressure.

Seating at Choe Uyeong Sushiya: solo counter or partitioned tables?

Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch has a range of seating, from solo counter seats that are comfortable for eating alone to partitioned tables that suit groups. It also seems like a good spot for office workers near Jongak Station to drop by for a casual lunch.

As soon as we walked in, the clean, modern interior stood out. The sushi posters hanging on one wall added a touch of charm without being over the top. The warm lighting made the whole place feel that much cozier and more comfortable!

What's on the menu at Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch

There's a wide range on the menu — sashimi, sushi, kaisendon, tempura, and udon. With so much variety, it's a great spot for a group with different tastes, since everyone can pick what they want!

What I ordered was the premium sushi set, the special sushi set, mixed kaisendon, and shrimp tempura udon. The three of us each ordered our own dish and shared the shrimp tempura and udon — and we were seriously stuffed by the end.

The 17-piece premium sushi set

The premium sushi set comes with 17 pieces total. True to its name, it's like a gift box packed with high-end ingredients like abalone and sea urchin roe. Every single piece of fish was thick-cut and premium-grade quality.

The 15-piece special sushi set

While the premium set focused on high-end ingredients like sea urchin roe and abalone, the special sushi set comes with a whopping 15 pieces, striking a balance between volume and value! It's packed with crowd-pleasing favorites like flounder, salmon, and tuna along with all the sushi staples — perfect for anyone who wants to enjoy a wide variety and eat their fill.

The mixed kaisendon (seafood rice bowl)

The mixed kaisendon has a totally different charm from sushi! It's piled high with fresh seafood, and topping the rice with thick slices of raw fish and uni, wrapping it in crispy seaweed, and adding a touch of wasabi soy sauce is the best way to eat it. The crispy tempura that comes alongside is also great to pair with it.

The shrimp tempura udon we shared

After all that cold sashimi and sushi, we ordered a shrimp tempura udon that was perfect for warming up our stomachs! It came with two big shrimp tempura pieces, so it looked hearty from the start. The tempura batter soaked in broth was savory, and the chewy noodles and rich, deep broth made it taste refreshingly clean.

Is Choe Uyeong Sushiya Jongno Branch worth it for a group of three?

From the premium sushi set to the 15-piece special sushi set, kaisendon, and hot shrimp tempura udon, we really left completely stuffed. Every single dish was fresh and high quality, so all of us were super satisfied! The place was also clean and tidy, making it a great option near Jongak whenever you're craving sushi or meeting up with friends.
