Handmade burgers in Dongdaemun, Seoul: 1986 Shibuya Burger

How was lunch at a handmade burger restaurant in Hoegi with friends?

I went to 1986 Shibuya Burger (1986시부야버거), in front of Kyung Hee University, for lunch with two friends. The three of us each chose a burger combo, for a total of ₩29,400. At about ₩10,000 per person, it felt like a filling meal.

The large burger sign outside immediately caught my eye. Even the exterior had an atmosphere that brought Shibuya, Japan, to mind.

What are the atmosphere and seating like?

Inside, there was a Shibuya Station sign, wood-toned decor, and green seating. The wall illustrations and photo cards, as well as posters and small decorative items near the ceiling, were also worth looking at.

The seating was a mix of booths and regular tables. There were quite a few customers even on a weekday afternoon, but it was not especially noisy, so it was easy to eat and talk with friends. The staff were kind as well.

What did we order, and how much did it cost?

We ordered from a kiosk. There were many options, including best-selling items and signature teppan burgers, so it took us a while to choose. We ordered one Shibuya Honey Burger combo, one Golden Jambon Wagyu Burger combo, and one Shibuya Classic Burger combo.

The three combos came to ₩29,400. Below are the menu prices recorded in the original post at the time of my visit. I did not record the individual prices of the combos we ordered.

How were the Golden Jambon Wagyu Burger and Classic Burger?

When the burgers arrived, I first noticed the thick, glossy buns. The Golden Jambon Wagyu Burger I had paired the jambon and patty well, and I liked the gentle sweetness of the caramelized onions. The patty's juiciness was memorable.

My friend's Classic Burger had crisp, fresh vegetables. It was not heavily seasoned, so it did not become overwhelming.

The potato chips served on the side were crisp, too. I liked being able to add ketchup, mayonnaise, or sriracha mayo to suit my taste. After finishing the burgers and sides, we were full.

What was available at the self-service bar?

The self-service bar had not only various sauces but also pickles and jalapeños. I could bring over anything I needed while eating.

There were also snacks and candies to take away. Amenities such as hair ties, wet wipes, and mouthwash were available, and the separate men's and women's restrooms were convenient to use.

Where is it, and what about hours and parking?

The address is 5 Gyeonghuidae-ro 1ga-gil, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, South Korea. It is near Kyung Hee University and within walking distance of Hoegi Station. The hours recorded at the time of my visit were 11:00–21:00, with no break time listed.

There is no dedicated parking, so drivers need to use a nearby public parking lot. If using the kiosk is difficult, staff can help.

It was easy to eat burgers and chat with friends, and the Japanese-inspired interior and self-service bar stayed with me. Next time, I would like to try a teppan cheese burger that I did not have this time.
