Gangseo Seoul café for coconut affogato: Pict Roastery

In short

Pict Roastery Magoknaru Branch is a roastery café in Gangseo, Seoul. I tried a 5,500-won iced café latte, a 7,000-won coconut affogato, and a 7,500-won Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake. Verdict: a worthwhile stop for deeply roasted coffee and rich desserts.

The day I was curious about freshly roasted coffee

I wanted a slightly special cup of coffee instead of my usual chain or brand-name coffee, so I looked up cafés around Magoknaru.

Visit to Pict Roastery Magoknaru café

That is how I found Pict Roastery Magoknaru Branch, where they roast their own beans. The café was more compact than I expected, but customers kept coming in even during weekday lunch hours. After trying everything from the house-roasted coffee to the desserts, I was left remembering the deep, clean flavors.

Key points

  • A coffee specialist that roasts its own beans
  • Offers coffee lessons and roaster rental
  • A rich, nutty latte and affogato
  • A smooth, full-bodied matcha cheesecake dessert
  • Lunch discounts and Americano refills were available at the time of my visit

When I go out for coffee, I often end up choosing a familiar chain, so this time I wanted to visit somewhere a little different that works directly with its own beans.

They offered one-on-one lessons for everyone from complete coffee beginners to people preparing to open a café, as well as roaster rental. Certificates showing related qualifications and activities were displayed on one side of the shop, too.

Certificates for coffee-related qualifications and activities

The SCA Roastery Diploma and a certificate appointing someone as a judge for the 2025 World Young Barista Championship caught my eye. Seeing that they offered not only in-house roasting but also one-on-one lessons gave me the impression that this was a place that takes coffee seriously. I became even more curious about how it would taste.

Compact café with a modern black interior

The interior had a modern black look, and because it is a compact space, it felt better suited to enjoying drinks and desserts alone or in a small group than to a large café where lots of people sit and chat for hours.

Roasting machine at the café entrance

Most of all, the large roasting machine by the entrance stood out. Seeing the roaster from the moment I walked in gave it a noticeably different atmosphere from an ordinary café.

From latte to affogato and matcha cheesecake

I ordered an iced café latte for ₩5,500, a coconut affogato for ₩7,000, and a Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake for ₩7,500.

Iced café latte, affogato, and cheesecake

First, the iced café latte had a notably strong coffee flavor. Even mixed with milk, the coffee did not get lost, and I liked how nutty and smooth it was.

Rich, nutty iced café latte

As someone who usually likes lattes, I felt the balance of strong coffee and milk was just right. I had come looking for a more distinctive Magoknaru café than the usual brand-style places, and this rich, nutty latte really hit the spot.

The coconut affogato was one of the most memorable things I had this time.

Affogato with coconut

Coconut was added to the ice cream and espresso, giving it a pleasant chewy texture, and when mixed together it was sweet and nutty.

Affogato and matcha Basque cheesecake

The Kyoto matcha Basque cheesecake was quite dense, yet it melted smoothly in the mouth, which I loved. The matcha flavor came through strongly, so it paired very well with coffee. I had visited expecting something special, and the fact that even the desserts were rich and intense was another thing I liked about Pict Roastery.

Lunch offer and refill information at the time of my visit

The menu was good, but the event benefits were an unexpected bonus.

Weekday Americano lunch offer notice

When I visited, they were offering ₩2,000 Americanos from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays. That is a pretty good deal for office workers grabbing a coffee after lunch nearby.

Americano refill notice for in-store customers

A one-time Americano refill service was also posted for customers drinking coffee in the café. However, events and services can change, so it is best to check when you visit.

If you are looking for strong coffee near Magoknaru Station

Pict Roastery was a Magoknaru café better suited to people who care about the coffee itself than to those looking for a large, flashy space. I came because I wanted to try something a little different from my usual coffee, and the rich, nutty latte I had in a space where they roast their own beans has stayed with me.

Café latte in a café with in-house roasting

The desserts also exceeded my expectations, from the coconut affogato with bits to chew on to the dense matcha Basque cheesecake. With coffee lessons and roaster rental as well, it felt like a place where you can experience coffee in more ways than simply drinking it.
