Gangseo Korean restaurant for octopus add-ins: Songjjujip Magok

In short

Songjjujip Magok is a Korean restaurant in Gangseo, Seoul, serving spicy webfoot octopus near Magoknaru Station. I ordered Sarimongttang Jjukkumi with a selection of add-ins, then finished the remaining sauce with fried rice. A satisfying spicy meal with plenty to enjoy in one order.

I was craving something spicy in Magok, so I went to Songjjujip Magok. 🙂🙂🙂 Webfoot octopus is tasty on its own, but adding all sorts of extra ingredients makes it feel even more generous, so I ordered the Sarimongttang Jjukkumi. I stopped by while looking for something spicy near Magoknaru Station, and there was more variety on the menu than I expected. Ordering comfortably from the table also made it a nice place for a meal.

Table ordering and thoughtful services

At Songjjujip, you check the menu and order through the kiosk at your table. While choosing what to get, I noticed they had a range of services ready in addition to the food.

It was nice to see high chairs too—it felt like a welcoming kids-friendly zone.

There were Naver receipt-review perks, birthday celebration services, pregnancy cushions, clothing stain remover, women's hair ties, and children's smartphone stands.

When you eat a saucy dish like webfoot octopus, sauce can splash onto your clothes, so having stain remover ready felt particularly thoughtful. There was also a separate staff-call button, making it easy to ask for anything I needed.

How was the Sarimongttang Jjukkumi?

The menu we ordered was Sarimongttang Jjukkumi.

Just like its name suggests, it is a generous dish where you can enjoy webfoot octopus alongside a variety of add-ins, and it looked quite filling from the start. As it bubbled away on the table, the aroma of the spicy sauce rose up—this smell alone really seems to get your appetite going with webfoot octopus.

Spicy webfoot octopus cooking at the table

Webfoot octopus can turn tough if it cooks too long, so we ate it once it was cooked just right, and its springy texture came through nicely. The spicy seasoning had soaked in well, so it was delicious on its own; with the add-ins, I could enjoy the sauce's savory depth in more ways.

Picking different add-ins to eat with the webfoot octopus was especially fun. Even though we ordered one menu item, it felt as if we were choosing from this and that. If you like spicy food, it is the kind of dish you can enjoy without hesitation. And of course, we had to end with fried rice 🙂

Fried rice made with the remaining sauce

Once we had eaten a good amount of the webfoot octopus, we couldn't possibly skip fried rice. We added rice to the remaining spicy sauce and stir-fried it, and the seasoning coated every grain nicely.

We were already fairly full after the Sarimongttang Jjukkumi, but fried rice is a separate matter. With rice added to the webfoot octopus sauce's signature spicy, savory flavor, I just kept eating. Personally, a trip to a webfoot octopus restaurant does not feel properly finished without fried rice at the end, and this time too, we polished it off before leaving.

If you want something spicy around Magoknaru Station, or need a generous place to eat with friends or family, this seems like a good one to visit. Rather than eating only webfoot octopus, having a range of add-ins and then fried rice at the end was great because one menu item offered several different flavors. On a day you are craving spicy webfoot octopus in Magok, try a hearty Sarimongttang Jjukkumi and fried rice at Songjjujip Magok.

Tip for even tastier fried rice

Also, it was even tastier when we stir-fried the remaining chives with flying fish roe and wrapped it in gim (roasted seaweed).
