I stopped by Jeongseong Katsu, a well-known spot in Buldang-dong, Cheonan. The menu is just right for lunch and the prices are good too, so it's a great pick for a meal nearby!

Parking and atmosphere at Jeongseong Katsu Cheonan Buldang branch

Use the underground parking lot of the First Plaza building, and you can get parking support if you register at the restaurant. True to its name ("Jeongseong" means devotion), this Buldang-dong tonkatsu place puts real care into its cutlets.

It's on the first floor, so it's easy to find, and it's spacious, which makes it even better! The menu has tonkatsu, udon, kimchi nabe (hot pot) and other dishes kids can enjoy, so it's a good restaurant to visit with children in Buldang, Cheonan.

With its clean, bright interior, Jeongseong Katsu also works for a lunch date. One katsu plus one noodle dish is a perfect meal 😋 Group meal delivery in Buldang-dong is available, and lunch box menus can be delivered too, so ask if you need it!

There's a wide range of tonkatsu, plus good-value set menus. What I liked most is the mixed menu that lets you try several cuts at once! I like eating a bit of everything, and I thought this menu was really thoughtful and clever 😋 There are also sides, pasta, karaage (Japanese fried chicken) and other light dishes, so choosing is half the fun haha

Triple mixed katsu set: how did the three katsu taste?

This time I ordered the triple mixed katsu set (₩14,900) and the icy cold soba (₩7,900).

The triple mixed katsu set is a tonkatsu set made up of loin katsu, fillet katsu and cheese katsu. With three kinds — loin, fillet and cheese-stuffed loin — you get to eat a bit of everything, which I love.

Loin katsu with a satisfying chew, fillet katsu with a soft, tender texture, and cheese katsu where the loin wraps around the cheese for a rich, nutty flavor. It passes on looks alone! 🥰

Every table has sauces ready, so you can pour on whatever you like. The regular sauce, spicy sauce and salad dressing are all there, no need to ask, just pour away. I like that!

My top pick: the cheese katsu

The cheese katsu in the triple set is packed with cheese all the way through, and it flows out the moment you take a bite..! The meat wraps thickly around the cheese too, so you get texture and richness, two birds with one stone 🤤🤤 My top pick is the cheese katsu. So good!

Crispy outside, juicy inside: the fillet katsu

The fillet katsu charms with its soft texture. It's moderately tender and the meat is juicy, easy to chew. A textbook crispy-outside, juicy-inside fillet 😋 It's cut thick, so one bite fills your mouth, and it's a happy amount even split into two bites. Very satisfying.

Loin katsu with real pork flavor

Loin katsu with that distinct meaty texture! Of the three, it has the strongest pork flavor, so the fried-pork-equals-tonkatsu character stands out most. Loin katsu that anyone can enjoy.

Jeongseong Katsu icy cold soba: portion and taste

The icy cold soba at Jeongseong Katsu is ₩7,900, served with a broth full of floating ice slush! I debated between this and udon, but since tonkatsu is fried, I chose the cold soba to cleanse my palate. Best choice~!

Even though it's one serving, the portion is quite big. About 1.3 servings? If two of you visit and get one katsu and one cold soba, it's just the right amount to leave nicely full.

The radish, scallions and wasabi that come with it are up to your taste.

Thanks to its clean, mild flavor, the cold soba went so, so well with the tonkatsu 🤤 It plays a kimchi-like role, so I could eat even more katsu, which was great.

Verdict: a light tonkatsu lunch in Buldang-dong, Cheonan?

Jeongseong Katsu is a Buldang-dong tonkatsu spot in Cheonan that's great for a simple, light meal! Between the carefully made tonkatsu and the cold soba, it was a satisfying meal that left me in a good mood 👍
