Why Bueokgan Sangmu still serves brunch after 2pm

Bueokgan is apparently known as moms' favorite restaurant, and even on a weekday past 2pm, plenty of people were in for a meal. The break time doesn't start until 4pm either, so it's a good spot to drop by late in the afternoon for brunch.

The interior is apparently inspired by the ballroom in Titanic, going for an Italian vintage-classic-hotel concept with lots of vintage furniture.

The vintage furniture and props are directly imported from the UK, France, and Italy — all the chairs at the Sangmu original branch are Karimoku, the round tables are Louis Poulsen, and there's an atomic chandelier by Robert Hausmann in the middle of the restaurant, so it was fun just looking around at the interior.

At Bueokgan Sangmu you order through a tablet, and it was convenient because you could also call staff instantly for things like joining the review event, pickles, napkins, honey, or pizza packaging. The wifi password is a1234567890. Joining the review event apparently gets you a pastry pie.

How do the kung pao chicken pilaf and jambon pizza taste?

The kung pao chicken pilaf came out first, and they gave us tongs and scissors so we could handle the chicken drumstick ourselves. The utensils were a bit messy, which was a shame, but we could eat it fine with a knife and fork too, and the pilaf had a really nice savory depth~

The jambon pizza had honey drizzled on it, giving it a subtle sweetness. It had plenty of jambon on top along with pistachios. The dough wasn't chewy or crispy — more like bread. It wasn't greasy, so it was easy to finish without getting sick of it. I'd recommend it for brunch too since it's not heavy.

They also gave us radish and cucumber pickles. Since the menu said the pizza comes with honey, I thought you were supposed to dip it like gorgonzola, so I asked a staff member — they explained the honey is already drizzled on top, and if you want more to dip, they'll bring extra.

Bueokgan's motto is apparently to be the most precious restaurant in Gwangju — one that takes care of its guests. There were also simpler menu items like pumpkin soup or sweet potato fries you could have before the meal or as a snack. I was curious about the basil pesto cream pasta but had pasta the day before, so I unfortunately couldn't try it~

Is Bueokgan Sangmu a good spot for a Sangmu brunch get-together?

The interior is really well thought out, so if you're looking for a stylish place for a Sangmu district brunch gathering, Bueokgan is worth a visit. There's also a branch in Suwan district besides Sangmu, so you can go to whichever is closer.

The break time only starting at 4pm and lasting just 30 minutes also made it easy to visit in the late afternoon, which I liked. Since it's on the edge of Sangmu district, it's quiet, and there's parking too, so it was convenient all around.
