Shrimp-chicken gangjeong for one in Jeonju Hanok Village: Mannyeon

Mannyeon Dakgangjeong Hanok Village Direct Store is a takeout dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken bites) and shrimp gangjeong shop at 27 Taejo-ro in Jeonju Hanok Village. Hours are weekdays 11:00–21:00 and weekends 10:00–22:00. There are tons of food options around Jeonju Hanok Village, and this was one of the tastiest I've had.
Menu and prices: shrimp gangjeong on its own is 20,000 won
Mannyeon's dakgangjeong comes in a bunch of flavors — mild, spicy, soy, and fried — and you can also do a half-and-half of shrimp and chicken gangjeong. Shrimp gangjeong alone is ₩20,000, so it's not a heavy price either.
For sides there's sotteoktteok (grilled rice cake and sausage skewers), sweet potato cheese sticks, fried jjondeugi, and cheese balls, so there are plenty of combos to pair with your gangjeong. Kids would especially love these, so it's a great takeout stop for anyone traveling to Jeonju with children.
You can also grab cold draft beer to go — 500cc for ₩5,000 and 1,000cc for ₩8,000 — which felt pretty cheap.

They also sell Jeonju moju (a mild rice wine), so if you've been debating whether to buy some, it goes well alongside the gangjeong.
Mannyeon uses fresh fruit-based sauce, so you can trust what you're eating, and apparently it's even better once it cools down. I'm usually a warm-dakgangjeong person, but even cooled off, Mannyeon's was really good.
How long is the wait? About 5 minutes after ordering
Mannyeon has a separate order counter, and once you order there, they start cooking immediately. It only took about 5 minutes for the gangjeong to come out — a big plus since you don't have to wait long.

Shrimp+chicken gangjeong, spicy, small size, ₩23,000. After taking it out, I found a spot on one of the many chairs nearby and sat down to eat.
Since I was on my own, I ordered the small, but the portion was way bigger than I expected. Two people could easily eat their fill, and if you're just tasting rather than filling up, it could probably stretch to 3–4 people.
The chicken and shrimp gangjeong come together, topped with cheongyang chili peppers. I worried the spicy option might be too much, but it was about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, so even kids could handle it.
I picked this after going back and forth over what to eat in Jeonju, and I had zero regrets — it was genuinely delicious. Good for filling up, good for a light snack too, and if you split it among a group, the value for money is pretty solid.
It's been a while since I had dakgangjeong this good, and I think it'd pair nicely with the cold draft beer or moju they sell in-store. Next time, I think I'll walk around Jeonju Hanok Village first, then take some back to eat at my accommodation!
The dakgangjeong: crisp coating, sticky sauce
I tried the dakgangjeong (fried chicken bites) first, and the coating was crispy with the sauce clinging thick and sticky on the outside. The sauce hit a good balance — not too sweet, not too spicy — so I never got tired of it.
They must be using fresh chicken because there was no gamey chicken smell at all — that was the best part.
The shrimp gangjeong: big, plump shrimp inside
Next up was the shrimp gangjeong, and since I personally love shrimp, I ended up enjoying this one even more.
The shrimp gangjeong also had bigger shrimp than I expected — crispy on the outside, plump and juicy inside — a nice contrast in texture.
Being able to enjoy both chicken and shrimp gangjeong in one order was a big plus, and if you're a shrimp lover like me, ordering just the shrimp gangjeong alone would probably satisfy you plenty.
This place is famous for its dakgangjeong, so I didn't expect much from the shrimp gangjeong — but it turned out to be really delicious!
There's so much food to choose from around Jeonju Hanok Village, but this dakgangjeong is one you should try at least once.
