Baekseok Station daechang BBQ with salted galbi for two: Chodaechang
In short
Chodaechang Baekseok Branch (초대창 백석점) is a grilled daechang (beef large intestine), makchang and teugyang restaurant near Baekseok Station in Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi. Two diners booked ahead and ordered 2 portions of grilled daechang, 1 portion of salted galbi and a spicy doenjang rice pot (eolkeun doenjang sulbap, 7,000 won), and switching between the rich daechang and the clean-tasting salted galbi kept the meal from getting heavy to the end. If you worry daechang will be too greasy, Chodaechang Baekseok Branch works best with salted galbi mixed in and the spicy doenjang rice pot to finish.

I was craving rich, nutty daechang (beef small intestine) lately, so I went looking for a good grill restaurant near Baekseok Station and ended up at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch (초대창 백석점)!

Is there a wait at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch?
Yes, a wait formed after 6 p.m.! Maybe because lots of celebrities have apparently been here, it was packed, and I went with a reservation. You can enjoy not just daechang but also makchang (abomasum), teugyang (special tripe) and galbi meat, so it's a good spot for dinner or a drink.

Two of us went and ordered 2 portions of daechang, 1 portion of salted galbi and eolkeun doenjang sulbap (spicy soybean paste rice pot). I figured daechang alone might get a bit greasy, so I mixed in one salted galbi, and the combination turned out really good 🤤

How was the daechang for two?

The dish I was looking forward to most at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch was of course the daechang grill! The nutty flavor was the real deal.

Well-grilled daechang is golden and a little chewy on the outside, and when you bite in, that signature rich daechang flavor bursts out from the inside.

The more I chewed, the deeper and nuttier it got, and I thought, yes, coming here for daechang was the right call.

Cutting the greasiness with sauce and the seaweed-wasabi side
Daechang is a fatty cut, so it can get greasy as you keep eating, but with the sauces served at Chodaechang it felt much cleaner.

The sweet and tangy soy sauce in particular tamed the fattiness of the daechang just right, and they went well together.

And with the side dish of seaweed mixed with wasabi, it didn't feel oily and I could keep eating.

If you like rich, nutty flavors, I hope you'll order the daechang grill at Chodaechang. If you're looking for a grill restaurant near Baekseok Station and love gopchang (beef intestines) or daechang, I think it'll suit you.
Can you order daechang and salted galbi together?

Along with 2 portions of daechang, I ordered 1 portion of salted galbi (150g, ₩18,000) at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch. Daechang and salted galbi were a perfect match.

I picked it because I wanted some mild meat in between instead of eating only daechang, and this combo was way better than I expected.
The salted galbi isn't strongly seasoned, so you can enjoy the juiciness and plain flavor of the meat itself, and I liked the chewy texture too. One bite of daechang, one bite of galbi, and you alternate between different textures and tastes, so you never get tired of it.

If someone who really loves gopchang or daechang is going with someone who prefers regular meat, I'd recommend ordering a mix like this.
Is the eolkeun doenjang sulbap a must?

The eolkeun doenjang sulbap at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch is ₩7,000, and I ordered it after eating a fair amount of meat. Personally, it's a must!

It comes in a bubbling-hot earthenware pot with the rice already in it, so you don't need to order a separate bowl of rice and it's still filling. It has tofu, zucchini, chives and other ingredients too, so it's great for scooping up broth and rice together with a spoon.

It's spicier and more kick-y than regular doenjang jjigae, which went really well with the daechang, I thought. When the nutty fat of the daechang lingers in your mouth, one spoonful of the spicy broth wipes it clean! If you like finishing meat with doenjang jjigae and rice, try ordering the eolkeun doenjang sulbap. It's savory and spicy, and my spoon just kept going.
What to order at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch for two

If two of you visit Chodaechang Baekseok Branch, I recommend what we had: 2 portions of daechang + 1 portion of salted galbi + eolkeun doenjang sulbap. The combination was so good that it's hard to pick just one of the things we tried.
The rich, nutty daechang + the plain juiciness of the salted galbi + the spicy, savory broth of the doenjang sulbap, eaten in that order, felt like a proper meal. With more variety than daechang alone, I never got sick of it until the end.

If you love daechang, I recommend ordering the daechang grill generously! You can have nutty daechang, galbi meat and meal dishes all in one place, so it seems fine for dinner, drinks or even a company get-together.

And an "excellent" to finish!! If you're looking for a grill restaurant near Baekseok Station or crave daechang in Baekseok-dong, Chodaechang Baekseok Branch is a good place to go. Next time I want to add makchang or teugyang and try an assorted order. It was a satisfying evening: daechang, then a hearty finish with eolkeun doenjang sulbap!
