Hi everyone~ Today I went to try one of the foods I'd really been wanting to eat: beef tripe (양대창) ٩(⌯˃ ▾ ˂⌯)و Honestly, I can count on one hand the number of times I've had gopchang-type dishes... and daechang (large intestine)? Never once!! But I really, really wanted to try it 🤓🤓
So I thought, let's do this properly at a good place! I dug through Ilsan restaurant recommendations and this is where I ended up. Long story short... I'll just say it: why didn't I try this sooner. Let me introduce this Ilsan restaurant that's totally my style, Chodaechang Baekseok Branch.
Where is Chodaechang Baekseok Branch, and is there parking?
Chodaechang Baekseok Branch is a beef tripe and intestine grill restaurant at 39 Gangsong-ro 87beon-gil, Ilsandong-gu, Goyang, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, near Baekseok Station. It's open 16:00–24:00 and has a dedicated parking lot right in front.
Being near Baekseok Station made it easy to get to, and parking was a breeze, which was great for visiting by car. You know how much of a parking nightmare the Baekseok restaurant alley is. Having a dedicated parking spot so you don't have to squeeze into the alley is a huge plus! So I'd definitely recommend this to anyone driving in and looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant near Baekseok Station, or a good spot for drinks near Baekseok Station.

A place that really knows how to grill daechang 😍 The red sign caught my eye instantly, even with my terrible sense of direction haha. And you know how much I love Blue Ribbon picks.

Selected by the Blue Ribbon Survey three years running — 2024, 2025, and 2026. That's more than enough to earn a spot in my personal treasure chest of restaurants 🤍
Inside Chodaechang Baekseok Branch: does it work for group dinners?
The interior at Chodaechang Baekseok Branch has a retro feel. Retro, but with a hip charm to the space.

The natural light is so good — visiting during the day, sunlight poured warmly into the space and the mood just came together on its own 👌🏿 The tablecloths especially completed that retro-but-hip vibe haha. And apparently the tablecloths aren't just for decoration! They're meant to embody the owner's wish that warm food doesn't get cold, like a mother's care for guests — that's the spirit behind Chodaechang 🥹 Respect to the owner's mindset 👍🏿

With so many tables, this also seems like a solid pick for anyone looking for a Korean BBQ restaurant for group dinners. If you're looking for a work-dinner spot near Baekseok Station, I'd also recommend it as a place for drinks near Baekseok Station.
What comes in assorted grill set B at Chodaechang

We started by ordering the assorted grill set B and doenjang sul-bap (soy paste rice)! I liked that the set combination was made up of exactly the things I like, so you can eat a well-curated set at a reasonable price!

The side dishes alone were so clearly made with care that I couldn't stop reaching for them with my chopsticks... A truly good restaurant shows its fundamentals in the side dishes, not just the main menu.

Sauces for daechang and makchang! You could tell how seriously the owner takes the food — a different sauce for each part haha.

First time eating daechang? The staff grill it for you
The assorted grill set B came out with charcoal, and it's a set of daechang, makchang, and teuknyang (beef abomasum)! One of the things I loved most about Chodaechang Baekseok Branch was the staff member grilling it deliciously for us 🔥

Each part has a slightly different grilling method and flavor, and the staff member explained which part was which and how to eat it for the best taste as they grilled — so even as first-timers, we were able to enjoy it properly 👌🏿
There's a reason this is a beloved Ilsan restaurant and a reason it got a Blue Ribbon... The owner clearly knows what they're doing, adding a bit more sauce as they grilled haha.

Teuknyang with wasabi seaweed and aged kimchi
This part is teuknyang. The fully grilled pieces were set in front of us so we could just focus on eating comfortably (⑉o̴̶̷᷄ ༥ o̴̶̷̥᷅⑉) This was my first time trying teuknyang, and it had a chewy texture that made for good bite. I'm not great with tough textures, but this wasn't tough at all, and I really enjoyed it!
Following Chodaechang's recommendation, I topped it with wasabi mayo, and the savory kick paired perfectly. Topping it with aged kimchi was also a delicacy in its own right 👨🏿🍳

Daechang: crisp outside, juicy inside off the charcoal
Ah, the daechang I'd been waiting and waiting for 🤍 It was the dish I was most looking forward to, and it exceeded expectations! Grilled golden brown over charcoal, it was truly crisp outside and tender inside.
One bite and a rich, savory flavor spreads through your mouth, and since the charcoal renders off some of the fat, you just keep wanting more. My boyfriend had been bragging about a daechang place in Seoul, but after trying this, he said we didn't even need to go to Seoul 🤣
That glossy sheen, though... Thinking about all the years I lived without eating daechang makes me want to cry.

It's delicious plain, but dipped in the soy sauce, it gets fresher and cuts through the richness — the pairing worked really well.
The best combo, in my treasure-chest opinion, is eating it with the seasoned vegetables 👨🏿🍳 No need to hunt far and wide for good beef tripe — if you're looking for great beef tripe in Ilsan, I highly, highly recommend this. A Blue Ribbon pick you can trust...

Makchang and its peanut-style dipping sauce
With makchang also fully grilled, the whole assorted set B was complete! The makchang had that signature chewy texture done right. It wasn't tough at all, and the seasoning was so good that it was tasty even without dipping it in anything else.
That said, you absolutely have to try it with the makchang sauce! Unlike other places, this sauce had a peanut-sauce-like quality that made it uniquely delicious 🤓 It was so good I couldn't resist and ended up ordering an extra portion of daechang, which turned out to be exactly my taste.

The seasoning really brings out the savory depth!! If it were just plain grilled daechang I don't think I could've eaten this much, but this secret sauce made it easy to keep going 👨🏿🍳👌🏿 This round of daechang I ate together with the doenjang sul-bap and kimchi mari guksu haha. A perfect-bite combination.
Doenjang sul-bap and kimchi mari guksu: the best sides to add

Doenjang sul-bap (soy paste rice) loaded with hearty ingredients. The owner's cooking skills are no joke — this doenjang sul-bap was so good 🥹 It's spicy enough to cut through the richness of the meat, and warms you up from the inside — I'm already planning to order it again next time... No wonder it's recommended as a group-dinner favorite in Ilsan... A hangover cure gem!

Try putting daechang on top of the doenjang sul-bap... trust me on this one... The spicy kick wrapped in rich, savory fattiness was truly delicious...

Kimchi mari guksu (cold kimchi noodle soup) became my boyfriend's absolute favorite dish here haha. Loaded generously with egg garnish and kimchi, it was even tastier. Eating it, I really felt that Chodaechang doesn't skimp on ingredients. You could feel the care put into every single item 🥹

Try wrapping daechang around the noodles and eating it that way... a dish with floating ice slush and a tangy freshness that refreshes your palate! It cuts through the richness of the daechang so well that you keep eating even when you're already full 🥹

There's currently a review event giving out free kimchi mari guksu, so it's definitely worth participating in >_< I think the pairing between sides and mains matters a lot, and everything here matched so well that it was a truly satisfying meal! But wait, it's not over yet — leaving right after eating would be a shame. An excellent dessert was waiting!!! Customer satisfaction achieved 10000% all the way to the end 🥹👍🏿🔥
