Hadong chicken shop by Hwagae Market: spicy boneless at Jadam Chicken
In short
Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo is a fried chicken shop near Hwagae Market in Hwagae-myeon, Hadong, Gyeongnam, which expanded from a kkwabaegi (twisted donut) stand on the same spot and now sells chicken as well. On a Hadong trip the writer stopped by at dusk and took away Maeb-shullang spicy boneless chicken and kkaechal (sesame glutinous rice) donuts to eat with beer at the guesthouse, and watched a robot fry the chicken while the order was packed. Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo is an easy one-stop for chicken and snacks to carry back to your room near Hwagae Market.

After a full day of exploring Hadong, I just wanted to shower, relax, and have chimaek (chicken and beer). So for a late-night snack, I went to pick up chicken at Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo.

We visited around sunset, and the lights coming on one by one outside the store made for a really nice atmosphere.

Can you eat chimaek at the outdoor tables?
Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo has outdoor tables set up in front of the store, and it felt like a great spot for chicken and a beer in the evening. When I visited, there were actually locals sitting at the outdoor tables having a drink, so it had that easygoing neighborhood-favorite feel of a Hadong chicken spot haha. On a nice day, you could skip takeout entirely and just eat chicken with a beer right here.

There are also seats inside the store, so it looked like a fine option to eat in as well.

Kkwabaegi and sesame donuts, not just chicken
But Jadam Chicken Hadong Hwagaejangteo also sells kkwabaegi (Korean twisted donuts)! Apparently they used to only sell kkwabaegi, and started selling chicken as well after expanding and relocating.
That kkwabaegi-place smell wafting through the air...
So along with the chicken, I also picked up some sesame donuts (kkaechal donut) to go.

The kitchen where a robot fries the chicken
And here's the part that surprised us most while waiting for our order — a robot was actually frying the chicken.
Looking toward the kitchen, a white robotic arm was moving around, cooking the chicken. I knew there were places these days where robots make food, but seeing it in person at an actual chicken restaurant was even more fascinating than I expected!
There was even some fun in watching the robot while we waited for our chicken order.

How the spicy boneless chicken and sesame donuts tasted back at the guesthouse
Spicy boneless chicken (Maeshullang), sesame donut (kkaechal donut)

Once we got back to our lodging and laid out the chicken we'd brought back, it made for the perfect meal on our last night of the trip. Coming back from a full day of sightseeing, showering, and sitting down to eat chicken comfortably — that's another kind of fun that comes with traveling, haha.
When we opened the takeout box at our lodging, the sauce looked deliciously coated over the chicken with peppers and sesame seeds on top, so it looked tasty just from the visual alone.
Since it was boneless, it was easy to eat, which made it perfect with a beer back at our room. Picking up pieces of chicken one by one while chatting about the trip and looking through the photos we'd taken that day — that's another one of the small joys of traveling, don't you think?

Yeah... chicken eaten at your lodging while traveling really does taste better than usual..! Having beer ready to go along with it made it feel like a proper trip :)

I also picked up a sesame donut to have as a snack, and it was much tastier than I expected! The only thing was, since we ate the chicken first once we got to our lodging, the sesame donut had cooled down a bit by the time we ate it. I think it would have been even better warm.
