Why I went for crab in Cheonan on a no-appetite day

On a day with no appetite, I headed to Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch (훈이꽃게장 천안본점), a soy-marinated crab restaurant on Taejosan-gil in Cheonan, Chungnam. You know those days when you don't want meat, you don't feel like raw fish... you get a little picky? 😂 That's when I go for crab, the "rice thief" (food so good you keep eating rice)! 🦀 I stopped by Cheonan not long ago, heard there was a really proper crab place, and dashed over!!

Parking and atmosphere at Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch

There's a huge parking lot behind the restaurant, so even beginner drivers have nothing to worry about! 🚗 And when I walked in, the place was really big! ✨

The hall is so large it doesn't all fit in a photo. It feels open, and the tables are spaced far apart, so you can eat comfortably~

There's a nice menu on the wall, but every table also has a kiosk, so you can order right where you sit! 👍

What's in the crab set and the roe crab set?

The menu has two main options: the crab set and the roe crab set. There were two of us, so we ordered one of each, nice and fair! ✌️ You can browse the menu on the kiosk, and the lineup is no joke. 😍

• 1 marinated shrimp
• Pot rice
• Seaweed soup
• Side dishes

As soon as we finished ordering, the neat side dishes were set out first! ✨ Each one was seasoned just right and tasty, and they were great for soothing the stomach before the crab started. 😋

Is it okay to go with a child?

Huni Gejang Cheonan Main Branch has high chairs too! 👶 I spotted them while looking around the restaurant, and families with kids should be able to eat comfortably without worry.

The steamed egg we were told to eat while hot

After the side dishes came the steamed egg, and I was moved... 🥺💛 The staff kindly told us to eat it right away while it was hot!

How do the roe-filled soy crab and spicy crab taste?

The soy crab at Huni Gejang was packed with orange roe and meat. At last!! The main crab dishes we'd been waiting for arrived!! 💖 The moment I saw the table full of food, my mouth started watering!! Just look at that soy crab, packed with glowing orange roe and meat... the savory, salty smell is wild. 😭

The spicy crab was generously coated in sweet and spicy sauce, and it looks like it could melt your stress away just by looking at it!

Finishing the pot rice as nurungji

The sets come with freshly cooked pot rice. Rice has to be good with crab, right? Here it comes freshly cooked in a pot! 🍚✨ When you lift the lid, it's full of steam~~

First, scoop the rice into a bowl and pour hot water into the pot. Finishing with nurungji (scorched-rice tea) at the end is just so good, haha! A perfect palate cleanser.

And here's the touching moment... seeing the dangerously good-looking crab, my companion squeezed out the precious crab meat and piled it into my bowl! 🥺 Aww, I drool just looking at it again! 💦

Okay, now time to dig in for real! 🔥

Crab seaweed wraps and butter bibimbap: how I ate it

Put white rice on dried seaweed, add plump crab meat, and eat it in one bite... you all know that taste is knock-out good, right?

And the big surprise: Huni Gejang gives you butter too! 🧈 This is seriously crazy good... 😭🔥 Mix moist crab meat, savory butter and the rich roe into the rice and it's pure deliciousness (미미, 美味)!!!

My companion also neatly peeled all the marinated shrimp for me! 🦐 Hahaha. Actually, when they were picking out crab for me, I said, "I'll peel the shrimp!" But I was so crazy about the crab and ate so greedily... ugh, haha. In the end I got all the shrimp served to me too 🧡

Can you see me digging away and mixing, determined not to leave a single grain of rice? Haha. I just couldn't stop...

What about the no-takeout rule for leftovers?

Huni Gejang says "leftover food cannot be packed to go," but there's nothing to worry about. The taste is such that you can't possibly leave anything! Hehe. I left full, happy and well fed! 😍
