Plate really does seem to have a reputation as a pasta spot worth talking about. I visited with a friend for weekend lunch, and yes, waiting was pretty much unavoidable at this pasta place!! I'd been to the Dunsan branch of Plate with my partner before and loved it, so this time my friend and I went to the Sunhwa branch instead. How long is the weekend lunch wait at Plate?
When we arrived, I thought "surely there's no wait?"... but there really was. I guess we did show up during peak time ㅠㅠ. As soon as we got there we quickly booked with CatchTable and waited outside. We waited about 20 minutes before we could get in.

The interior of Plate. There were other customers around so I couldn't photograph the whole space, but it's definitely smaller than the Dunsan branch, so you should expect a weekend wait! The all-black interior with soft lighting on each table gave it a kind of private, cozy feel.
There's a coat rack by the entrance, which is perfect for hanging up outerwear these days when the temperature swings so much between day and night!

If you're not sure which pasta noodle to choose, there are recommended noodle numbers next to each menu item, so use those as a guide! Please ignore the spots where I checked the wrong boxes,,,hahaha
Since Plate is a pasta specialty restaurant, it uses fresh noodles and offers a wide range of pasta types, so you can pick the noodle that suits your taste. Risotto is also an option, just so you know!

How does the scallop uni oil pasta taste?
My friend ordered the scallop uni oil pasta. It's an oil pasta packed with all the umami of seafood. I'd had this at the Dunsan branch too, and it was so delicious.
Think of it as a seafood oil pasta where the scallop and uni (sea urchin) let you taste the ocean directly. There are also plump scallops on top, adding good texture along with that pure ocean flavor.
Steak cream ragù: the seafood-and-meat pairing to order
The steak cream ragù I ordered. Wow.... this one's a genuine winner too. If you're planning to order one seafood pasta and one meat pasta, doing it like we did is a great idea.
The thick pasta noodles were fully soaked in the savory cream, and the bacon chips and vegetables scattered throughout gave it a nice kick. I could already tell I'd want to come back and eat this again 🤤 Plate is truly, genuinely a proper pasta restaurant. Now I get why my partner kept insisting Plate's pasta was so, so good!!!
The steak on top was cooked just right and tender, with the juices running out and pairing perfectly with the pasta. This place is a steak spot too, apparently...🤍 I actually felt sorry watching the pasta disappear as we ate.. which just shows how much we enjoyed it!
My friend and I scraped both plates completely clean hahaha. We basically did the dishes for them ✌️
Is Plate Sunhwa branch worth the weekend wait?
The Dunsan branch was delicious last time, so I went back to the Sunhwa branch, and as expected, it didn't let me down — a genuine pasta favorite 👍👍
Everyone, skip the so-so Western restaurants — if you want proper pasta, go here. (Firmly.) Plate, the fresh pasta specialty restaurant I enjoyed so much, is a real Daejeon pasta favorite. If you really want to taste great pasta, I highly recommend a visit. That's my satisfied review of Plate — the end ⭐️
