What kind of restaurant is Plate in Sunhwa-dong, Daejeon?

These days more and more good restaurants are popping up in Sunhwa-dong too, so there's actually a decent number of options to choose from haha. This time I wanted pasta in Sunhwa-dong, so I looked around and found Plate. It's a restaurant with a clean vibe where you can eat pasta and steak together, so it seemed like a good spot for eating with friends or for a date. I went with a friend, and when we visited there were quite a few couples there too.

Parking and wait time at Plate on a weekday lunch

Plate Sunhwa branch has no parking lot of its own, so you have to use the nearby paid public parking lots. We tried to use the closest one but... it was full, so we ended up parking at the public lot across the street. We visited during weekday lunch hours..!! Must be a hot spot in Sunhwa-dong these days haha.

Here's the outside of the restaurant. The place itself isn't very large, so the entrance wasn't big either! I found it by looking at the map, but the sign is pretty small so I wasn't totally sure at first haha. When you visit, look for the orange sign!!

Maybe because corkage is allowed here, there was a whole shelf of bottles right at the entrance.

Plate's menu and how to pick your pasta noodle

Plate's menu is unusually printed on paper~~ true to a Daejeon fresh pasta restaurant, there were sooo many noodle types!! Each menu item even listed a recommended noodle, so it wasn't hard to choose.

Plate Sunhwa branch had an overall clean, cozy vibe. It's not overly formal, so it's comfortable to eat in!

The kitchen is open too, so it feels like a place where you can trust what you're eating.

How the Classic Meatball Bolognese and Steak Cream Ragù tasted

The pastas came out one after another. We ordered without thinking too much, just going with the recommended noodle each time, and ended up with the same noodle for both, oops? I wanted to try a different noodle type too, which was a bit of a shame.. next time I definitely want to try a different noodle..

First, the Classic Meatball Bolognese — the meatballs on top are the highlight, and eating meat along with the pasta makes it feel like a much more filling meal than pasta alone!! If you like tomato sauce, this is a dish you'll enjoy without any surprises.

And then the dish I was more excited about! With steak mixed into the cream sauce, it was savory while still carrying the flavor of the meat. If you like cream pasta, you'll probably enjoy this one too. Especially with the steak added in, it felt much heartier than pasta alone, and the combination of noodles and meat together was pretty solid.

The portions were bigger than expected, plenty for two people.

After paying, they gave us coffee candy for dessert too~🍭🍬

Who is Plate in Daejeon best for?

If you're looking for a good pasta restaurant in Sunhwa-dong, Plate is worth a visit! It's great for a casual meal with friends and also works well for setting the mood on a date, so I'd highly recommend it as a Daejeon date spot too. If you like pasta, give Plate a try when you're searching for good pasta in Daejeon :) Next time I visit, I want to try the gnocchi or another steak option~!
