I had some business near Naepo New Town in Hongseong/Yesan and stopped by this restaurant — figured I'd share it!
They recently opened a branch in Dangjin too, on September 9th I think? [Sonui Son] is a chain headquartered in Daejeon that's been expanding nationwide. This was my first time trying it...
Parking and location — 3 minutes from Chungnam Provincial Office
🅿️ There's basement parking in the building, so parking was easy. Plenty of spots too~! It's the Seum Pellipia building.
The restaurant is a 3-minute walk from the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Office and the Chungcheongnam-do Provincial Office of Education.

Hours and break time
✅️ Hours reference! ✔️ Sat–Sun: Opens 11am ~ Closes 9pm (last order 8:30pm, no break time) ✔️ Mon–Fri: Opens 11am ~ Closes 10pm (last order 3pm, 9:30pm / break time 3:30pm ~ 5pm)
For the restroom, grab tissue and the door code and use the shared building restroom~

Seating — good for groups and families?
Seating is mostly 4-person tables, and there are quite a lot of them, so group meals and work dinners seem possible. Many tables can be pushed together too~ I saw quite a few big families with kids coming in!
The system lets you check the menu and pay at the same time, which is convenient.

Menu and an ordering mistake to avoid
The menu has stir-fry dishes and hot plate dishes. Not knowing better at first, I ordered a stir-fry and then also pressed add hot-plate fried rice... oops. I clearly gave away that it was my first time — plain rice comes included by default but I didn't realize that, so I also added extra rice haha, whoops.
One drawback: all the main jjukkumi (spicy octopus) dishes require a minimum of two people. Solo menu options are limited to noodle dishes and pork cutlet..!

There's also a ₩1,000-off-per-review event~ With the review discount applied, the spicy octopus stir-fry comes to ₩12,000 per person!

Since they cook to order, I expected it to take a while, but it came out earlier than I thought.

The basic table setting and side-dish bar
You get water, miso soup, vegetable salad, radish strips, bean sprouts, seaweed, and cooked cabbage by default — I have no idea what the sauce on the vegetable salad was, but it was so fresh and delicious... I forgot to ask about it, darn it.

You can get extra side dishes from the self-serve bar.

Cheese bomb spicy octopus — mild spice that's still pleasantly hot
- ▪️Cheese Bomb Spicy Octopus (Jjukkumi)
- ✔️ ₩15,000 per person (minimum 2 people)
- ✔️ Mild/medium/hot spice levels available
- ✔️ Rice included by default

I'm weak with spice so I ordered mild, and it was a pleasantly spicy level! Recommended 👍
True to the cheese bomb name, there was plenty of cheese — enough that you won't need to fight over it (haha).
Scoop the rice and side dishes into a bowl, mix with the octopus, and you get a delicious bibimbap (mixed rice).

Mouth-watering... it's a delicious spicy flavor!!! I think this is already a known lunch spot for office workers in Hongseong Naepo New Town. Probably packed on weekday lunches..🤧

It's also great wrapped in the lettuce salad.

Hidden menu item: potato pancake, one per table
- Another hidden menu item at this restaurant ▪️Potato Pancake
- ✔️ 3 pieces, ₩5,000
- ✔️ Comes with what I think is nacho sauce, included by default
- ⭐️⭐️⭐️It's just really damn good. Order one per table without fail.⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wrapping the potato pancake around octopus is also delicious~ At first I thought the portion looked small, but we kept eating and it kept going, so the portion was actually pretty generous.

Aside from a bit of leftover rice from ordering one too many bowls and splitting three between us, we cleared the table 👍

Summary — a solid lunch pick in Naepo
They're sweet enough to even post an allergy notice. If you're looking for a Korean restaurant in Naepo or specifically a spicy octopus place in Naepo, I recommend it 👍👍 The owner was kind and I left with a satisfying meal.
They're running a grand-opening event in Dangjin with 30% off spicy octopus stir-fry from the 10th through the 12th following the September 9th opening, so I'm planning to check out the Dangjin branch of Sonui Son next haha.
