Parking, waiting tips and combo platter at Deodo Gejang, Haeundae

In short

Deodo Gejang is a soy-marinated crab (ganjang gejang) restaurant on the 1st floor of the Hanil Ordu commercial building in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan. A couple visited by reservation and tried the combo platter with nutrient pot rice (₩28,000 per person), featuring spicy seasoned crab, soy crab, marinated shrimp, abalone, octopus and crab shell rice, plus scorched rice tea made from the pot rice. Parking is inside the Hanil Ordu building — just give your license plate number on the way out — and the 60-plus-pyeong hall comfortably fits groups and family gatherings.

My husband and I came to Busan for a trip and stopped by Deodo Gejang, a soy crab (ganjang gejang) spot in Haeundae 🙈 haha

We drove there, so let me tell you about parking! We got a bit lost.

Finding the restaurant after parking

Okay so we typed in the address, parked, came up to the 1st floor, and couldn't find the place — I was so hungry I basically went blind haha. There's a CU convenience store on the 1st floor and an exit right next to it lol. Once you go out, turn your head right there and it's right in front of you ;)

How long is the wait? Order ahead while you wait

True to its reputation as a top soy crab spot in Haeundae, there was a wait.

Customers waiting outside Deodo Gejang

There were seats outside so you could sit and wait.

And while waiting, the owner came around taking orders in advance. That way, once you're seated, the food comes out pretty quickly, right? 🙊 haha

Taking orders in the waiting area

We had a reservation so we got in first.

The inside was already packed with customers!

As I always say — don't forget to leave a receipt review ♥

Menu lineup and add-on items

Deodo Gejang combo platter menu board

It matches the actual menu board exactly haha. With pictures, it's easy to browse and easy to choose, and there are set meals and 2-person sets too. Everything came out really generously!

There are add-on items too, so if you're still hungry, you can order more to suit your taste ;)

Clean, tidy restaurant interior

Since it's a newly opened place, the restaurant was really clean, and the staff were all in uniform, which somehow made it feel more cohesive and hygienic.

Combo platter with nutrient pot rice (per person) ₩28,000

We ordered the combo platter with nutrient pot rice (per person) for ₩28,000. I wanted to try all the different marinated seafoods ♥ Once the pot rice comes, first scoop all the rice out into a bowl. They'll give you separate hot water too — pour that in, and by the time you're finishing your meal, it's turned into scorched rice tea (sungnyung) haha.

Alright, now let's take a look at the main event — the combo platter. So exciting ♥

Plate of spicy seasoned crab and soy crab from the combo platter

What's in the combo platter

  • Spicy seasoned crab (yangnyeom gejang)
  • Soy-marinated crab (ganjang gejang)
  • Marinated shrimp
  • Marinated abalone
  • Marinated octopus
  • Crab shell

And that's it! I really recommend the combo platter, honestly.

Adding the sliced cheongyang chili peppers sprinkled on top makes it perfectly spicy — the balance is amazing ;)

Spicy seasoned crab uses chili powder, not paste

I'm a spicy seasoned crab lover, so naturally I grabbed that first.

Can you see how it looks?!!!!-!!!!? So much meat, and unlike other places, the seasoning uses chili powder instead of chili paste, which keeps the natural flavor — sharp and spicy without leaving your mouth feeling heavy. It had a refreshing quality that made it easy to keep eating.

Soy crab and mixed crab shell rice

Next, gotta try the soy crab too, right? The meat is seriously insane. Just four pieces and I could easily finish two bowls of rice. I put a little cheongyang chili on top and took a bite.

Put more crab meat into the shell and mix it up!!!!!!!-!!!!!!!

Mix the savory tomalley with the plump crab meat, wrap it in seaweed with the all-important cheongyang chili — you know the drill haha — one bite and it's clean and amazing. Plus the legs were packed with meat too, and pulling each one apart, the meat just kept coming out.

The visual feast isn't over. I'm still thinking about that spicy seasoned crab.

The marinated abalone and octopus were also tender, not chewy at all, and not too salty — I loved that!

Finishing with scorched rice tea and a bite of grilled fish

At the end, my husband scraped up the sungnyung himself lol, it was so funny lol lol. There were so many side dishes that we never ran out until the meal was done. Making the sungnyung and topping it with a piece of grilled fish gave it that savory-salty flavor that's just incredible.

Anyway, we scraped everything clean ^^ haha. Mission accomplished for today.

For parking, make sure to tell them your license plate number when you leave! You need to park at the Hanil Ordu building.

Table after finishing the meal

Final thoughts

Our empty table after finishing (I should've packed the leftover spicy seasoned crab...). Deodo Gejang is already famous in Yangsan, and I could tell why — the flavor was really solid and the composition was excellent. They only use crab from the pristine waters of Jeju, and no MSG at all. If a crab isn't cleaned properly, the tomalley gets a bitter taste, but there was absolutely none of that here ;) So I looked into why, and apparently everything is handmade and all the seasonings are aged with natural fruit. With that much care put in, of course it tastes amazing ♥

Since the place is over 60 pyeong, it seemed like no problem at all for group meetups or family events even with lots of people >_< It would also be a great spot to treat your parents or elders. Since it's in a large building, parking wasn't a worry either, and the location in Marine City makes it easy to get to! They have locations in both Yangsan and Haeundae, so if you're nearby, definitely check it out — trust me ♥
