Traditional liquor bar near Jeju City Hall: Jichilliya Jeju

Jichilliya Jeju is a traditional liquor bar in Ido-i-dong, within walking distance of the Jeju City Hall food alley. A solo after-work visitor mixed the distilled spirit Dowon-gyeorui with tonic water, wrapped grilled chicken thigh (12,000 won) in sweet rice bread, and finished off the hogamjeon pancake (17,500 won). Both the atmosphere and the quality of the food impressed enough to earn a spot on the list of places to bring friends visiting from the mainland.

Korean BBQ, 1-person servings of fresh ribs near Jeju Airport

Jeju Boncham Sutbul Galbi is a charcoal Korean BBQ restaurant in Nohyeong-dong, Jeju, about 10 minutes from Jeju International Airport. The writer ordered 2 servings of fresh ribs, 1 serving of black pork samgyeopsal, seasoned ribs, and seafood doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew), grilled tableside by staff, with the option to order by single serving rather than by geun (unit weight) like most galbi restaurants. Seasoned ribs cost ₩19,000 for 300g, priced like a real local spot rather than a tourist restaurant.

Gujwa, Jeju Korean restaurant with all-you-can-refill soy crab

The Jeju hanjeongsik (Korean set meal) came with dombegogi (steamed pork slices), abalone jang, grilled hairtail, braised mackerel with aged kimchi and seafood hot pot, plus a self-serve bar where soy sauce marinated crab and bracken fern were refillable — I went back for the bracken fern twice. A receipt review event even got me a free Gujwa carrot juice, making it a generous way to taste Jeju's home cooking.

Hyeopjae Beach opening-time breakfast with a baby: Onjeong Jorim

Onjeong Jorim Jeju Hyeopjae Branch is a Korean restaurant right in front of Hyeopjae Beach in Jeju, Jeju, specializing in Jeju manong (garlic) hairtail stew. The writer visited at the 10am opening time for a breakfast-lunch with a baby before beach swimming, and the rich garlic sauce was so good with rice that they ordered an extra bowl. The sauce runs fairly spicy, so families with kids may prefer the grilled whole hairtail or grilled mackerel instead.
