Surabanjeom Gaya Branch is a Chinese restaurant on Eomgwang-ro in Busanjin, Busan. The writer visited with her daughter and ordered the jjamjjamyeon (half jjajangmyeon, half jjamppong) + tangsuyuk set and the seafood udon + tangsuyuk set, filling up on thick-cut tangsuyuk (sweet and sour pork) and a clean seafood udon broth. For noodles and tangsuyuk in one generous meal, Surabanjeom Gaya Branch is a good-value pick in Gaegeum-dong.

Baby-friendly Italian restaurant in Bangbae, Seoul: Couple B set at

Osteria Ottivo is an Italian restaurant at the far end of Bangbae Cafe Street in Seocho, Seoul, near Guban-po. On a weekend evening with a baby, the Couple B set (soup of the day, garden salad, pasta, pizza and a drink) came to 59,000 won and brought mushroom cream pasta and a wood-fired Margherita, and the staff brought out baby dishes and a baby-safe knife. With valet parking at 3,000 won for 3 hours and pasta packed with mushrooms, Osteria Ottivo made for a satisfying family dinner.

Two udon sets compared at Kosi, a Konkuk Univ. udon restaurant

Kosi Konkuk University Branch is a self-made noodle udon restaurant a 4-minute walk from Exit 1 of Konkuk University Station in Gwangjin, Seoul. Ordering the gamaten bukkake udon set and the tenbukkake udon set together made it easy to compare cold udon with warm mixed udon, and the five tempura pieces and inari sushi that come with the sets stood out. Between the chewy noodles and the generous portions, Kosi is a Konkuk University udon spot worth a second visit.

Magok Italian restaurant after a botanic garden walk: Romaok Magok

Romaok Magok is a Blue Ribbon Italian restaurant on the 3rd floor of LG Arts Center Seoul, right by Magongnaru Station in Gangseo, Seoul. On a third visit with her mom after a full loop of Seoul Botanic Park, the writer ordered the Korean beef ragu fresh-pasta lasagna roll at 28,000 won and the abalone gaewoo pasta at 26,000 won, and the Colosseum-inspired signature lounge table and the pre-meal bread stood out most. Romaok Magok works just as well for a meal with parents as it does for a date.

Mackerel set for two with spicy pork, a Jeju restaurant: Hwadeogeuro

Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang Jeju Iho Tewoo Branch is a wood-fired grilled fish restaurant on Tewoo-haean-ro, right in front of Iho Tewoo Beach in Jeju. The order was the two-person mackerel set plus a single serving of spicy pork (jeyuk), placed on the table tablet, so mackerel grilled in a 500℃ wood-fired oven alternated with the spicy pork, rounded out by self-serve banchan, a self-fried egg and rice refills. Between the clean-tasting grilled fish and the spicy pork, Hwadeogeuro Gan Godeungeo Bansang works well as a filling Jeju family meal for two.

With window seats and a private room, Myeongji Cheotjip Jangyu Yulha Branch suits a family meal or a lunch out with parents.

Balsan Station outdoor patio bar for chimaek: Daily Beer Balsan

Daily Beer (Saenghwal Maekju) Balsan Station Branch is a beer pub with a long row of outdoor tables (yajang) in Magok, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, about 3 minutes from Balsan Station Exit 2. Visiting for a second round after lamb skewers with former coworkers, the writer ordered the Angry Bird half fried, half red chicken with beer and watched a patio that was empty at 7pm fill up to almost every seat by 8pm. Daily Beer Balsan Station Branch works well as a second-round chicken-and-beer spot on a cool evening.

Marine City gejang restaurant with Jeju yellow crab set: Deodo Gejang

Deodo Gejang is a gejang (soy-marinated crab) restaurant that recently opened in Marine City, Haeundae, Busan, and specializes in Jeju yellow crab. On a visit with her mom, the writer ordered the 48,000 won set of grilled fish trio + soy-marinated crab + nutritious pot rice and worked through meaty Jeju yellow crab, grilled flounder, and a bulgogi hot pot. Because Deodo Gejang uses no frozen blue crab, the meal felt like a short trip to Jeju for two.

Songdo smoothie café with MCT oil add-ons: Ugly Tongue's Brain-Booster

Ugly Tongue is a health-focused smoothie café on Haedoji-ro in Songdo, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon. Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong Dongtan Namgwangjang Branch is a cockle jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup) specialist at Namgwangjang square in Dongtan, Hwaseong, Gyeonggi. Visiting with two young children, the writer ordered level 3 cockle jjamppong, level 1 cockle jjamppong rice, jajangmyeon at 8,000 won and a small tangsuyuk at 17,000 won, and the yunni-jjajang style noodles and soft sweet-and-sour pork both went down easily with the kids. With high chairs and 90 minutes of free parking in the public lot right outside, Bultina Kkomak Jjamppong works well for a family meal.

Anmin Cheongju is a charcoal-grill pork BBQ restaurant in Bongmyeong-dong, Cheongju, where staff grill the meat at your table for you. On a weekday 7pm reservation with a young child, the order was the Anmin half whole-pig set, Mashitte soy ramen and sweet rice nurungji soup (scorched-rice soup), and Anmin Cheongju brought out a booster seat, kids' tableware and seaweed without being asked.
