Hanppong is a Korean restaurant near the academy district in Dunsan-dong, Seo, Daejeon, serving gamjatang as well as galbitang and doganitang. I had the latter two at weekday lunch and liked the clear broth, tender beef, and generous doganitang fillings; the spacious tables and high chairs also made it seem suitable for family meals.
Plan A Restaurant is an indoor dog-friendly restaurant on the fourth floor overlooking Songdo Beach in Pohang. I visited with my dog and ordered a mushroom black sesame salad, chop steak, and spicy broth shrimp pasta. The portions were generous, and I especially liked the savory-spicy shrimp pasta broth.
Yangnam Yanghwa is a lamb barbecue restaurant in Mullae, Yeongdeungpo, Seoul, where staff grill lamb at the bar counter. I tried three cuts over the two-hour seating, added another platter, and found the meat had almost no gamy smell that day; book ahead for busy Friday evenings.
Hwangbuja Twigim (황부자튀김) is a Korean restaurant in Sokcho Central Market serving squid sundae and fried foods. I ordered Set No. 12 with nurungji ojingeo sundae and Abai sundae; there was a wait, but the crisp exterior and moist filling held up well even after some time.
Yeoyejeong is a salt-aged beef and pork restaurant in Seo-myeon, Yangyang, Gangwon. After watching the sunset at Surfy Beach, I had pork belly that was thick yet tender, with juicy lean meat; there was a wait when I arrived and customers kept coming in during the meal.
Jin Seiromushi is a Korean restaurant on Seonsa-ro 2-gil in Sokcho, where I ordered a red snow crab soy-marinated crab set meal and a soy-marinated shrimp set meal. With pot-cooked rice and a wide range of side dishes, it was a filling meal; the spacious parking area was also convenient, though hinoki-steamed dishes require advance reservations.
Eosiljang Sashimi Takeout is a sashimi takeout shop in Sonyang-myeon, Yangyang, Gangwon. I took a sashimi platter for two to a Hajodae accommodation while the children had barbecue. The thick sashimi, shrimp, abalone, and included sides made for a satisfying, relaxed dinner for two.
Sokcho Jungang Sanghoe is a seafood restaurant in Sokcho, Gangwon, where I ordered a medium soy-braised skate for three and rice. The mildly sweet, non-spicy sauce and tender fish suited a family meal, and there was plenty for three, though cooking took 15–20 minutes after ordering.
Sokcho Daeilho Bangeo is a wild-caught and aged sashimi restaurant in Sokcho Jungang Market. While traveling with my niece, I took belly sushi and halibut mukgeunji salt gimbap back to our accommodation; the rich sushi and tangy, crisp aged kimchi made a satisfying pairing.
Bongpo Hoega is a sashimi restaurant within walking distance of Bongpo Beach and Bongpo Port in Goseong, Gangwon. On the last day of my Sokcho trip, I took out a medium assorted sashimi platter and shared it with my sibling and their spouse at our accommodation. The takeaway felt somewhat pricey, but I was happy with the thick-cut texture, portion, and included side dishes.
Gukbap Cafe Pick Up To You is a Korean restaurant within walking distance of Gangneung Station, with parking directly in front. I had four kinds of gukbap (rice soup) and tonkatsu with my children; the clean, mild Hongcheon Korean beef bone broth suited them, though its portion felt small for the price.
Ichiba Ramen (이찌바라멘) is a ramen restaurant near the Yeongrang-dong pocha area in Sokcho, where we stopped for lunch before heading to the sea. The spicy Kara Ramen had a rich broth and firm noodles, while the chashu rice bowl was especially refreshing with ginger.
