Gyukatsu with garlic sauce near Yeouido Station: Izawa
In short
Izawa is a Japanese restaurant near Yeouido Station in Yeongdeungpo, Seoul. Before the weekend dinner rush, we ordered the A Set with extra meat and grilled gyukatsu on a mini brazier with garlic sauce and wasabi. Verdict: the tender meat, crisp coating, and house sauce made for a satisfying meal.

Izawa is on the second floor of Yeouido General Shopping Center, right in front of Yeouido Station Exit 5. Go into the building, then take the elevator or the stairs up.

Take the elevator to the second floor, turn right around the corner, and it is at the very end. There are so many signed photos of Lim Young-woong both outside and inside the restaurant! I do not know if he visits often, but is this a celebrity-approved favorite??

I visited before the weekend dinner rush. There was no wait then, so we could go straight in. It seems there is usually quite a wait! There was even a waiting-list sheet, probably for weekday lunch or peak weekend dinner hours. Also, when there is a wait, your whole party has to be present before you can enter, so keep that in mind! Break time is 15:00–17:00.
A cozy wood-toned interior that looked good for solo dining
Inside the restaurant

The interior is not very large, but there are several tables. Its wood tones make it feel cozy. There are window-side seats too, so it looked like a good place to eat alone. I saw a few people dining solo as well. I thought it would be nice to come by myself sometime. Gyukatsu (breaded beef cutlet) can feel like a difficult menu to order alone, but this place seems fine for it.
A menu with gyukatsu, ramen, and gyudon
Menu

The menu includes gyukatsu set meals, steak set meals, ramen, and gyudon (beef rice bowl). I had the gyukatsu set, but I am curious about the steak set too, so I want to try it next time. The ramen and mazesoba (soupless mixed noodles) looked tasty as well! It seems office workers often have the ramen or gyudon options at lunch.

We ordered the A Set (gyukatsu + gyukatsu + drinks) (₩36,500), plus extra gyukatsu meat (₩15,000)! Honestly, is extra meat not essential with gyukatsu..?! Hahaha

How to enjoy mini-brazier gyukatsu
The gyukatsu set comes with gyukatsu, salad, rice, soup, side dishes, and sauces. There is salt on the side too, so you can put some on your plate if you want it. I usually like the salt-and-wasabi combination! But this place was a little different. I will tell you how to eat it deliciously in a moment.

That is quite a lot of meat, right? We added extra meat, so we had a really generous meal. The meat was so tender after grilling it nicely on the mini brazier. It also arrived well fried, and grilling it made the outside even crispier, which was delicious. Snacking on the salad, side dishes, and soup in between was tasty and refreshing too, so the combination worked well.

You get one mini brazier for two people, so share it as you grill. If the flame goes out or you need the grill plate replaced, just ask and they will change it right away. Otherwise, if they see the flame has gone out, they will replace it on their own.

The white house sauce and wasabi combination
Right now! Let me tell you how to eat it deliciously! What made this place a little different from other gyukatsu restaurants was this white sauce! I think it is a garlic sauce? It is seriously delicious when you dip the meat in it. I loved the combination of wasabi and this sauce. I ate so much with that sauce. The soy sauce is a standard sauce, and it goes well with the meat too!
If you want gyukatsu in Yeouido, I recommend Izawa. It would be a nice place to visit on a date after hanging out at Yeouido Hangang Park, with friends, or with family for a delicious meal. The house sauce paired beautifully with the meat, and I was satisfied by how tender the meat was and how crispy the outside became!
